One of my grill mounting studs is broken off. I know this is a common issue with the plastic grills. What solutions does anyone have for repairing and saving the original grill without getting new one?

Post a picture of what you need to fix. I have repaired many stud mounts.

Try Plast aid. It’s a 2 part resin to form into any shape you want. Mold it, sand it, drill it, tap it, paint it, done

Do you have the broken stud? If not, first find a replacement stud with broken plastic still attached.

    Then use the following process:

    1. Clean up the grill including removing broken plastic as necessary and removing the previously applied epoxy in order to fit the replacement stud to the location.
    2. Plastic weld the replacement stud in place. If you do not have a plastic welder, you can use a soldering iron and the excess plastic that was previously removed to accomplish the repair.
    3. Add A + B epoxy to smooth the repair and increase the strength.
    4. Sand to shape.
    5. Paint to match.

I do not have the missing piece, unfortunately. It would have been much easier if I had it.

You will have to try to remove the old repair.
The grille is made from ABS plastic.
Try to find adhesives that are compatible with that plastic.
I would try to graft a piece of ABS plastic pipe to the grille.
Fill and sand as mentioned above.

Nawaf, I have a jar with studs that I collected over the years. I'll take a look and see if I have one for a 72.
