71 and 72 had the silver background, every cap thereafter had black. Which probably explains why you see so many black ones.

(sorry about that Bruce :Dou: . Asleep at the wheel here)

    Bruce,

If your black caps are nice, you can just buy NOS silver medallions from CARS and you are in business!

My 72 came with the silver centers. Then again, the car has about 190,000 miles on it so anything could have been on this car.

    3shields Let's go, MOUNTAINEERS!!!

For what it is worth, silver is definately the correct color for 71-72. Only the 70 varied with the fluted caps. For 73 and up, i can't answer.

Sorry, Bruce.....couldn't resist! And yes, I could be taking something apart if I was in town. I will be back at the GS though Friday night and should have it totally stripped by the end of the weekend. The past two weekends I got all of the doors stripped, glass out, seats, carpeting underlayment out, and the complete dashboard out. Figure about a good weekend left to strip the rest of it. Scares the HECK out of me when I think of reassembling this thing from the ground up!

Only one bummer though......no build sheet. Found the body production order on top of the gas tank, and a few other scraps of this and that, but no build sheet tucked behind the dash like I was hoping. Oh well.....:ball: Later!

A few hours of assembly for sure! And I sure hope that I can remember where are those nuts and bolts go that I just threw into that big box during disassembly........someone said something about "ziplock" bags, but I was short on cash that day....
