Northern Auto Parts for the rebuild kit.... And I still recomend a Q jet built by Everyday Performance,as the Edelbrock will never run right unless you spend a lot of time modifying...

The edelbrock carb does require a lot of tuning as its not optimized for a Buick 350. Do plenty of research for a cam and what parts you want it to work with, convertor/ gears/headers. Now would be a good time to decide to bump compression up. Whether you shave heads or block or a piston change.

Thanks to all. Everyone's input is most helpful and most appreciated..... SMAR---I managed to pull the intake very carefully by using an very thin putty knife and a pry bar (tapping them with a mallet) and worked around all the edges carefully and managed to take it off without problems........I can't seem to find any numbers stamped on the cam anywhere....The lobes are approx 1 1/2'' tall and about a 1/4'' raised above the solid main shaft.....I do want a better performance cam, this is not a daily driver nor a strip race car. I am just looking for what the car had for performance before this problem came up....The headers are Hooker Super Competition and I have 2 1/4" pipes with Flow master 40 or 44 exhaust (can't remember)......I may go with the Holley Carb due to a lot of people talking about Edelbrock.....I replaced the tranny to 78'-80 olds 350 with a shift kit (from what I was told) that I bought at a place in Daytona Beach 3 years ago. That has been pretty reliable and has a bit of kick....I have the engine almost apart, still have the crank and all the bearings to pull......One thing good that I see is there is no carbon ridge at the top of the cylinders so the pistons will be easier to pull....The head gaskets did not show any sign of damage or issues.......One thing that I am stumped on is the lifters. I pulled them all out and am curious to know if the inside springs are supposed to move freely or not. I took the retainer ring off a couple and then the caps.....The springs on most of them felt stuck while several others moved when I applied pressure with the push rod. Any ideas?? Thanks again all.

Do you think I would have to change out anything else with going to a 268 cam (pushrods, springs, etc.)?

my opinion on the 268 is that it needs more convertor, gears and higher then stock 72 compression. I wouldn't put the 268 in the same category as the 212. the 268 is their largest cam of that series. what you posted is not the same as comp cams website. I ran that cam before and was more impressed by the TArv112 in a low compression engine.just my experience. I did notice that most of these cams wake up as compression goes up.

On paper, the TA212 should be better because it has 12* more exhaust duration to help out the exhaust flow. Same 218* intake duration as the 268 cam. I wonder what the overlap is, if any, on both cams.

OK, I have a few picture for all your viewing pleasure if I can only get them loaded (maybe next message, I only have 6 pictures to upload).... The head gaskets and the engine have blocked passages (see my fingers and pen tip locations on the gaskets) and this does not appear to be normal.......does it? Also see the cam....that lobe is one of 3 that were flat or rounded. I am taking pictures as I take off each item.

Awesome.....................#1 & #2 Exhaust valves cracked......That is where the compression was going down to 80psi (#1 larger crack) & 100psi (#2 small crack)...........Looks like more than anticipated and more $$$$...Hit it with the purse......Still can't get pictures loaded to show the clogged holes on the head gasket.

Maybe get a used engine for now then fix this one right as you can afford.

I agree, a used runner is a low cost way to go.... Start a free Photobucket account and you can post pics large and easy to see.
