  1. Buick 350 Y-pipe

Well I got my freshened motor in my 1984 Pontiac Bonneville LE G-body ride. Its a 1972 Buick 350 2bbl, purrs like a kitten. Thing sounds great only one problem it wakes up the neighbors  I was hoping someone on here would have an old y-pipe laying in their attic or collecting dust behind a shed, obviously without any holes or too brittle that it would break in shipping :) The original one was thrown out and my Pontiac 305 one doesn't fit. I was told a couple fit this setup including late 70's early 80's full size cars that came with buick 350's like rivera's etc. Its a 3 bolt flang and comes out on the passenger side.

Most of my local part stores advance auto, napa, fisher don't carry this application and my junkyard choices are pretty limited, I could have a friend with a pipebender weld me one up but he said it would be cheaper to put dual exhaust on it....I'm looking to spend around 40-60 bucks if possible that includes shipping, sounds cheap but this motor swap has to this date only cost me $82.51 that includes fluids, belts and a fan clutch, that and I'm poor I don't live with the parents anymore. :TU:

Thats about it, I just need this pipe and I can go get my inspection and registration lined up. If anyone has an insight also on which other cars y-pipes will work that I can use when I call stores that would be great, if I don't get any leads on a seller thru this post.

    Thanks again!

After model year 1977 most of the V8 engines in Buicks, were Pontiac, Oldsmobile or Chevrolet units.

Just ask your mate to weld and bend a custom made pipe for you, after all: if he's your friend, he can give you some time to pay him :TU:

  3. Ok I take that back he's a friend of a friend and still wants to charge me over 75 bucks :O)

    Doug -

I'm helping out on this Buick 350 --> G-body swap, it's my brother's old 350 that we put in the Bonneville. I used to have a Y-pipe from my '71 skylark but it's long gone. Does the 68/69 pipe have the outlet on the passenger side like my '71 did?

We are eliminating the cat anyway (had a meltdown about 5 years ago, now it's hollow), so the exact location or curvature of the outlet doesn't matter, just that it comes out on the passenger side. Then all we'll have to do is put in a 2-3' long section of pipe between the Y-pipe and the existing pipe behind where the cat used to be.

I talked to the guy I know with the mandrel bending machine, and he wasn't too keen on making a Y-pipe for some reason, he thought it would be easier to make dual exhaust with both pipes running down the passenger side of the car. He said it would be as much time to build the Y-pipe as it would to do the custom dual setup, but then new mufflers and tailpipes would be needed, not to mention putting in new hangers, clamps, etc. This is supposed to be a budget swap, not a mega-$$$ street/strip machine, hence the search for the used pipe.

    Thanks

Scott yes it comes out on the pass side. shipping it may be expensive seeing it would have to be a fairly large box. i think i have a couple of y-pipes, let me get you a pic if you are interested.

    hows $10+shipping??

  7. can't beat that deal 10 bucks :TU: I can check on shipping cost if you haven't already, pictures would be nice if you can please.

  9. I just sent you a PM. I just wanna double triple check, it doesn't leak the last time you used it right? It does look rusty which is common stating the year but the surface of the pipe is solid as you can tell right?

it is very solid its just a little surface rust. i wouldnt have saved it if it had any holes in it. i never started the car that this came on it was a parts car that i parted out.
