I just got a Sloan GM daily report for my car and have a couple questions about the codes on it. Why did Buick use a two digit sales code in addition to the UPC code for some options? Some options, like the TH400 automatic trans. show up with the a common across-the-board id like M40, and also have a B7 sales code. Yet some of the three digit codes don't have any sales code with them. Finally, is there any way to decode the rest of the info on the daily report that comes after the options listings?

    Carl,
Did you get sloan info for your specific car, or did you get "The Daily Car Report" for your model type. Also, what type 72 car did you get your info for? Depending on the model I might be able to help you.

PS. If you have a 72 Riv and have the buildsheet, I can decode it.

I got the Daily Car Report for both of my 72's, my Riv and my Centurion coupe. I don't have the build sheet for the Riv, and haven't looked for one on the Centurion. Do you want a more detailed description of what I need help decoding?

    Carl,
If you need help with the Daily Car Reports you should talk to either Mike Trommetter or Marco, they know more about this then I do. I usually stick to buildsheets.

    Carl,

Two digit sales codes were used for options that were could be ordered as part of the car. All sales codes had UPC codes associated with them. UPC codes were also assigned to parts that may have been standard or were part of an option.

    Example:
The sales code for carpet savers and handy mats was P1 and the UPC code was Y54. The upc code for just the carpet savers is B32 and the handy mats are B33. You could just order the carpet savers under sales code P2 (upc B32) but you could not just order the handy mats so they did not have a sales code.

There are other 3 digit codes on the daily car report that represent option groups, dash colors, steering wheel colors, etc...

Do you have an example of a code that you want to find out about? I am just learning on how to decode all of the info but I may be able to help.

    Duane,
You know more about this than you think...Its all in the codes and many of them are used on build sheets....

    Mike,
I agree that I know some of this info, but I never really messed with sales codes until I started decoding some of the options that Sloan couldn't figure out on their 72 microfilm. Most of the buildsheets use either UPC, or Manufacturers codes only. You are the window sticker/sales code Guru, not me.

Right now I have UPC, Manufacturer, and Fisher body codes swimming in my head, plus IBM 80 cards, that's enough for now.

OK, here's the codes I can't decipher -- UPC WH2 Sales Code L4. Next there's UPC ACL Sales Code Z8-ACCT. Then there are 7 oddballs:

    UPC SALES CODE
    BXA *D
    BXB *1
    BXE *4
    0FF *5
    BXF *6
    BXG *7
    BXH *8

I can't match the totals with each of these to anything else in the report. They come right before the production totals by paint color.

The next mystery somes after the production by paint color:

    UPC SALES CODE
    AQH LBA-17B
    AQJ LBC-17A
    AQL LBG-17I
    AQM LBJ-17E
    AQN LBK-17H
    AQP LBV-17D

The LB numbers all correspond to paint colors, but I can't find anything that matches the 17 series numbers. Any clues about what they mean?

I'm not sure if its the same for the '65's or not, but there is a similar section for the '65's. They were like for delivery options-Flint factory pickup, or dealer demonstrator, stuff like that. I can post the list and codes for the 65 and 66 stuff that I have.

Those codes would be found in an assembly manual for your car.

I finally figured out what the codes meant -- It's the number of cars made with the half vinyl top in a color that matches the body color. I'm not sure why anyone would want a car with an invisible vinyl top, and not sure why Buick kept track of them, but the number isn't very high. Maybe Buick left off the stripes that matched the vinyl roof color when the body was the same.

I just looked at this old thread and I'm wondering what's the code ZP2 on my 1975 Electra. It says "trim & color override" but what does it means?
