Interested in buying a couple smog pumps, hoses (from diverter valve on the back of the pump to the check valve) , check valve / pipe assemblies. Tim tcarson@vcn.com
I have a 72GS 455--when it arrives --I am considering removing the pump and hardware and plug the intake manifold.I just purchased the car and have to wait for delivery. Pete (regal.gs@verizon.net)
Tim where are you located? I am in southern CA---the car has probably been in Cali it's whole life--no real rust so the innards look real good.I have a pic of that side of the engine showing the pump.I can email it to you,Pete
Hi Jim, Actually I'm most concerned with the brace, diverter valve, formed hose, check valve and intake pipe. Our 3 big block cars didn't have most of the stuff with them. Thanks, Tim
Tim, Take it from me, the parts you are looking for are hard to find. I did get them all but it took months. I do have an extra pump if you need one along with an extra hose. Remember the 350 is different from the 455. Smaller rubber hose running from the pump to the check valve. This info is from Duane. Mike
Mike, If you want to get rid of that stuff I would probably be interested. It seems like the toughest part is the 72 455 only intake pipe. I have a few extra of the other style pipes, but am short a couple of the correct ones which I realized after you had brought it to my attention. The other item is the 72 only diverter valve. The 73 and later used a different style. Hope to see some pictures of your car finished in the near future. Tim
I have that curved intake pipe if that is what you are looking for? It bolts to the intake and is metal.
Ed, If you do, and it is from a 455, I will take it as the one that came to me is for a 350. The 350 is smaller. Let me know, Mike
Tim, I have a complete 73 Buick 455 with all the smog/AIR set-up on it. Let me know if this is what you need and/or will it work for your cars. I will not need it since it will be going into a 70 GS455 conv and I have the top half from another 70 Buick 455. So, I will have no use for the intake either. I don't know the date code for the engine so it may be from mid to late 72 production for 73 models. Engine was in a 73 LeSabre 2dr. I will not be disassembling it for at least 3-4 months so let me know if that fits your time frame.
It looks to be correct. I have one that is similiar, but has a third bolt which the long brace from the air pump attaches to. I am not sure which one is right for the 455? It might be that the 350 is the 3 bolt design and the 455 the brace attaches to the front bolt so only 2 bolts. The assembley manual just is not clear to me. If available, I would be glad to purchase it. Thanks, Mike
Mike, The only thing I have to go by is the 72 GS 455 conv. we bought in '96. It was the only one of the 3 - 455 cars we have that had the pipe with it, and it's the version with the extra hole and fixed nut. All of the 72 and 73 455 full size cars that are around for some reason have the version with the 2 holes. I forgot which version our 72 350 4 spd. car has, but will take a look. But in any case I have never seen one of those braces, so either they were discarded along the way or never actually installed ? Tim
George, I wouldn't be able to use the intake, but some of the smog stuff is the same. I'm in no hurry at all, so when you get to that point you can let me know and we can go from there. Thanks, Tim
Intake pipe Mike, I looked at our original 72 GS 350 and it has the pipe with the 3rd hole, just as our 455 car came with. Maybe Buick had a couple different vendors on the part which is why there are different versions on the same model year cars. I bet the brace was something that was dropped along the way before production. Tim
