That's funny, Dave! Probably be fun, though...

I think Olds has the best dash and interior of all the GM A bodies.

Dave, look at post #790. This guy has a really good handle on the hardware, he's a friendly dude, too. There's a guy on CO (classic olds) who has killer, crystal clear, assembly manuals he sells. That post runs like 24 pages, the car's almost finished now. It was supposed to be unveiled at MCACN last Fall. There's another guy in Mendon? Upton? doing a frame off W30 resto. He's got a lot of parts, too. We'll bring these guys here over to the "dark side".

It is nice. Easier to get gauges out too.

As an Olds fan and owner, I really like that car. Quite rare and a hugely enjoyable cruiser.

As to the Dual Gate, Olds would be a natural, of course, with it's connection to Hurst and Doc Watson. The GTO surely deserved it. You have to wonder what corporate decision led to Buick not having it? Maybe not enough supply to go around?

Not sure? Buick did use the Hurst manual sticks. Pontiac actually stopped using the Hurst Dusl gate around 69-70? They actually started making their own. It’s actually hidden. I have showed Pontiac owners how it worked and they never even knew it was there.

Yep, my ‘79 Trans Am (the 403 car) had a version; slam it up at about a 45* angle and it would go one gear.

Cool as hell decal on the underside of the console lid. I’m not sure when they started using these or if it was hit or miss. My 70 w30’s I had didn’t have one. I’m doubting it can be replaced ?

A must have tool for wiper arm removal. Anyone who has ever fought with these knows what I mean. This makes it a piece of cake. On the spinning tool rack at NAPA. KD tools. Made in Taiwan but it works. At least not Communist China. For now anyway.

Charcoal can is the same one used on the Buick. Different bracket is used and it’s on the opposite side. Screws with zinc washers are not correct and will be replaced. Those are special screws with big washers used there and are not reproduced. Shop years ago lost a lot of parts and 2nd shop put it together with whatever they had.

Both fenders and wells are off. Core support will be left on until the day it goes to the shop. I have hit my knee on the frame horns more times than I care to remember. I even partially tore my outer knee ligament on it once. Luckily it heeled from just rest.

We rebuilt the entire front end a few years ago and it still in great shape. Even paint on control arms looks good. Will just clean and decide if they need paint. Happy not to have to deal with bushings again. Not looking forward to taking out front springs. Never fun. Front frame appears in great shape.

Emblems are attached with same speed nuts as Buick used on their emblems. There are more with this set up and are easy to screw up with each digit is different. This one was an NOS fender and shop did an OK job but should be tweaked a bit.

I took many a wack off the back of the head. I owned 2 70 W30’s and I am now conditioned to duck in that area on any car now. I have a friend who was real deal Olds mechanic do some engine work fir me and when I went to pick car up the piece was on the ground. I knew immediately why. He is 6’5” so worse for him!
70 pace cars are cool. Interesting they came as Cutlass or 442 as you know.
