I've read a black phosphate finish is appropriate. In looking at mine, I see no sign of a former black finish. It is very shiny under the bolt head locations. I suppose this could be from undoing the bolts, but there are areas I can see under a loop that are undisturebed and look shiny.

Anybody seen a bracket with a finish other than black phosphate?

Here's a picture of under one of the bolt heads:

Thanks Steve for the response. I think the one I have will be fine once I blast it. i did check out the repro and it looks correct compared to the original in my hand.

I'm more interested in finish here, but thank you for the tip. :TU:

If this is the same as the 72 model--a "long" bracket down on the frame rail--I think clear (silver) zinc is more likely the correct finish. Seems my 72 was clear zinc. Look at the backside of the bracket where it touched the frame underneath the bolt hole area for some additional evidence. Patton

Thanks Patton. It does look like clear zinc under the bolts and where it attached to the frame. I just saw it posted before as black phosphate and wanted to see if anyone saw it different. I appreciate the confirmation.
