for the last 2 months or so there has been a kid in a 71 monte Carlo that has determined my street is his test track. there is a stop sign about 1 block from my house and thats his starting point. many times when i'm working in the garage i hear his car long before i see him go by. at one point i got irritated enough to jump in my trruck and follow him to his house and give both him and his dad my opinion on this. well today he did it again. came past my house sideways smiling as he went by. this especially annoyed me today as the little neighbor girl was outside playing in her front yard near the sidewalk. so.. I jumped into my 68 sportwagon amnd followed him to his house again, i got there just as he was getting out of his car. i said your car sounds faster than before.. he said "yeah i got new dual exhaust" i told him i'd make him a deal.. " race me in my sportwagon and if you beat me i'll not say another word about you driving by my house.. but if you lose you never drive past my house again" he looks at my car and says" but it's a station wagon, and a Buick, i could beat you easy" i told that was a chance i was wiling to take. then he wanted to look under my hood. looks bone stock except for the open element air cleaner. then he wanted to hear it idle.. idles smooth no cam here. he looks at my 70 series tires and poverty caps and says to me "you are stupid but i'll race ya" he follows me to a deserted country road nearby and we line up. he yells over that he needs to warm up his tires.. he does a huge power brake burnout and looks over and asks if i need to do one.. "no .. i'm fine" we line up and i tell him to say when. i can hear him bringing the rpm's up and the car is starting to lift as it strains against the brakes..suddenly his car jumps as he yells GO.. he has me by 1 car length off the line but within 50 ft i was beside him and he looks over at me in amazement, then i shift to second and i'm quickly ahead by 2 car lengths. at that point he backs out of it and slows down. i turn around and go back and he starts right away acussing me of having Nitrous Oxide. i open the hood again and tell him to look all he wants.. obviously he didnt find anything because i dont have it. he then made some excuses about his launch and shifting.. i offered to run him again and he declined.. i win and he agreed not to drive down my street again unless it's like a civilized human.

well the sportwagon is 90% stock. it has a low mile 430 with HEI being the only thing not stock on the engine. the tranny is a stock TH400 with a 2400 stall . rear end is a 3.42 posi. in his defense my car is pretty light and only weighs 4600 lbs. :Brow:
