'71 GS 350 with air, plug change?

Hi, Gang. I have a 1971 GS, with 350 engine and A/C. It's time for new plugs and wires. The A/C compressor is totally in the way of getting at the plugs and wires on the passenger's side of the engine. My question.....what is the best way to do the plugs and wires on this side? Can I unbolt the compressor and lay it aside without disconnecting the lines? Or, can I get at the plugs and wires from below? Or...? Appreciate any help! Thanks, John in Wisconsin

My Skylark has the same set-up. Take your time with it. My memory is very good , just doesn't last long. I'm pretty sure I used a universal on the socket to break the grip & then just backed them out by hand. If I can do it.....anyone can do it.

The universal trick works great but be carful not to twist the wrong way or over tighten, the plugs will break.

Another trick is to jack up the car a little and go in through the wheel well.

A little time and it can be done without breaking knuckles.

    It is much easier than a 2000 E150 with a 4.6 v8. Ughhhh!

Have a close look at your spark plug socket,,, notice how a 5/8 wrench fits OVER the top end of it????

Reach under the A/C to put the socket on the plug, and down the side over the valve cover with a 5/8 wrench to turn it.

    Yep, total PITA :spank:

You could unbolt the A/C, but that would include the alternator, belts, and a couple of connectors from the wiring harness, and the heater box on the dash board would still be in the way  ..... Much easier to just do the "yoga" thing and use a 5/8's

Just imagine the trouble the big block guys have to go thru :pp
