71 GS 350 headlight upgrade, LEDs?

I am nostalgic so I want to keep my 71 GS350 as stock as possible. I put radials on it, and put 3 point Morris seatbelts in it. The last upgrade I would like to do is headlights.
The stock headlights as you know, are HORRIBLE! They are aimed correctly and yet are woefully inadequate on dark New England back roads.
I see these LED headlights advertised that plug right in with possible minor bucket alterations, use a third less power and put out 5 times the light. But with further homework I am reading that they make a lot of light right in front of the car but not way down the road like a modern Audi or other LED lit car that focus their light.
It sounds like they will dazzle oncoming cars and not give me that 100yard safety margin I would like for nighttime highway driving. What have you folks heard? What works?

These are cheaper and are rounded,

    Plus they are GS Powers!:D

If you read the reviews, some complain the locating tabs/nubs are off. Pretty universal complaint no matter what manufacturer of these conversion headlights you choose. I know the headlight buckets are all different and have a specific location they belong in. I'm wondering if these guys have the wrong buckets, or they are in the wrong location?

So to be clear; do these upgrades improve lighting over standard sealed beam halogen? I have installed the sealed beam halogen and they are an improvement over standard issue headlight but certainly not LED high intensity. I always thought you needed a conversion kit to power leds? these GS power bulbs say halogen LED.... can you elaborate on what is different here? Thanks!

Larry - I tried those conversion bulbs (I posted above) in my 67 (which is were I plan to use them) and the fit was OK but not plug and play. The tabs, as described before, are off a tad, enough so you have to file a bit here and there. The tabs are metal btw. The other issue is the flange is not as thick as the OEM bulb so there is a bit of looseness if you don't adjust the tabs correctly. The good news is they do work.
Note I just plugged the auxbeam LED bulbs into the stock plug.

Thanks Bill. Big difference in light.

I've done several LED conversions over the years, using different products from different manufacturers. They are problematic in a number of ways.

    1) As mentioned, the tabs usually do not line up correctly.
    2) Some touted as "plug n play" are not, either because the headlight buckets need to be modified or the bulbs are too long to fit in the stock location. LED bulbs with large fans on them are sometimes problematic, since there is no room for the fan unless modifications are made.
    3) There are no alignment nubs on the lenses. So I have to aim the headlights with the stock sealed beam units, then swap in the retrofit units.
    4) And the biggest problem is that there is no fluting on the lenses. Which means that you have a whole lot of light going everywhere. Including into the eyes of oncoming drivers. Without fluting, there is no way to focus the light. Halogen bulbs use the bulb itself to control light scatter, and that's why the halogen retrofit kits have non-fluted lenses. It seems like most of the LED kits use the non-fluted lenses from the halogen kits, but without the ability of the bulb to control light output as a halogen bulb does.

As much as I would like to be, I'm not sold on LED retrofit kits.

I’ve had really good luck with the Sylvania Xtravision sealed beams. Very white and made a big difference on my cars. Just plug on like the old beams.

Jim - those are Halogen, right?

Jon - mine are fluted - but not much. The LED has top and bottom diodes and there is a sharp cut off on low beam.

So they are not sealed beams. How much are replacement bulbs and are they even available?
They look good with fluted glass.....
