    Hi,
Refinishing what I thought was a rebuilt floor shift column, non-tilt. Builder took a few short cuts along the way & I will try to finish it.
I bought two others floor shift columns for parts & information, neither of which have been restored. One is '71 GS, second is '71 Chevelle.
    Noticing a few differences.
Wondering if anyone with some experience can help?

1- Shift gates in the column the same in a Buick for column & floor shift?
The GS piece appears to have the detents for column shifter. The Chevelle is smooth around the outside edge.

2- Lower bowl bearing on the GS piece had a wave washer inside. This is correct ? Neither of the other 2 had this.

3- Need a source for the plastic washer at the extreme lower end. The spring sits here held in place by the bearing & retainer. White plastic with 4 small tabs to align the spring.

4- Need a source for the extreme lower bearing & adapter.

Appreciate the input you may have.

    Cheers.

    George,
The two shift gates in the pic show what I found inside two different floor shift columns. LH side from a '71 Chevelle, middle from a '71 GS. The GS piece has some wear marks on it making me believe it may be from a column converted by someone else.

Not sure which one to use, have never come across this before. Thinking the Chevelle piece. The GM book shows separate parts for column & floor shift gates.

The plastic bushing is a thrust washer found at the lower shaft bearing/retainer area. The drawing shows it as 4.012 Washer.
This is the piece I need.

I found a wave washer inside the lower bowl bearing on the GS piece. Not sure why it was there as the drawing does not indicate it.

That washer and spring are not needed....that is an early drawing...all the columns I have redone and removed from cars never had that spring...it serves no purpose....the GS shift gate is correct....don't know what the other one is from.

Started the conversion last night. Couple hours & a couple tonight..so far.
Seats, console & carpet out. Old column out, new column in. Need to button everything down before moving on.
Holesaw ready to cut the floor opening over the weekend.
