I'm pretty sure the seller had a 4-speed QQ GSX I saw at a show a few years ago. Nonetheless, dig deep fellas. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/604395904932013/?mibextid=dXMIcH
I am not saying there is anything questionable about the stampings, as I don't know enough to be sure, but the numbers 2 and 4 do not match what Gary posted in the 72 Stage 1 convertible thread.
Here is an original carb dated 2639 beside the carb for sale. Notice the 4, 6, and 9 are different on the two 2639 carbs. The 0 and 3 also appear slightly different to me as well (the bottom of the 3 on the original curls up where the carb for sale does not. Anyone else here have a 2639 dated carb to compare?
Just for comparison, here are some other dates. ALL of the original examples I have here have fonts that match one another and none of them match the carb for sale. NONE have a 4 that is open. The originals all show to have a 4 that is complete / enclosed.
The dead giveaway it’s a fake is the straight line of the planed area you see above the numbers. Even my service replacement from 72 is consistent with all the other original font examples. I bet the poe holes are wrong too. Beware of the “Carb Doctor.” I wouldn’t be surprised if you sent an original and were returned a fugazi, it would be a good way to bust him for felony theft.
Well, then....I guess that just about sums it up. Who's gonna tell the guy he got screwed by the Carb Doctor? EDIT: the Facebook masses already have.
Good point, I didn't even notice the extra ridge of where the old numbers were milled off. So here it is side-by-side with Jason's legit 2369 carb which doesn't have the extra ridge line.
The 2 also has a severe drop down at the beginning of it……..This and all the times I see Blocks Stamped all funky and people come up with all kinds of crazy explanations why….. only confirms what I have always said, if it looks funky it’s because “funkiness” has been done. The factory did it in a specific way, and place, 99.9% of the time. Here the carb from the yellow convertible on BAT….the 4 is open on it too, Funkyness.
The font is tricky. The open 4 and the different styles 1 and 3 were used by gm but usually 1969 or earlier. Here are some original examples of those.
