I was riding in a friends car and noticed his torque convertor wasn't locking up so I offered to get it working for him. By doing this we discovered the trans is shifting way early: 1 to 2 7mph, 2 to 3 12 mph, 3 to 4 30 mph. I've installed a 700R4 in my 72 C-10 that worked perfectly and have an 87 turbo Regal, 89 TTA and a 69 Firebird with 200R4s in them and I pretty sure the TV cable is adjusted correctly. I know the governor is mostly responsible for shifting, and if it's stuck, the trans will not shift at all. Are there different governors out there? I know B&M sells a kit to move shift points up for racing, but that's about all I've found. Looking for suggestions. Thanks.
Not an expert - but I've read that the 700 governor is easy to get to (outside) and buy a kit. Lots of info on the web! https://www.corvetteforum.com/forum...lect-weights-springs-for-700r-4-governor.html
Looks like the THM350 governor, so you can use the B&M Shift Point modification kit. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/bmm-20248
If it were the TCC it seems that it would be stalling occasionaly. I put a 700R4 in my 72 C-10 in 1997 and it had the opposite problem, went into over drive at 68 MPH. I put a governer in from a Chevy Astro van and the shift points were perfect.
Every 2004R trans I’ve had that had a bad TCC solenoid would near stall when comming to a stop, but never did, it also was the cause of short shifting, 1,2,3,4 lock up by 30 mph
