I recently decided I can't live without a big block in my Skylark. This has come after much deliberation over many beers. Don't worry the 350 will be staying around and probably finding a home in some random truck. But I found a 1972 Riviera with a 455 ran when parked. Body is shot though so it would just be for the engine and trans and if anyone on here needs something off it that's decent condition I will send for free if you pay shipping. Do you think the price is worth it?
If it has decent miles on motor and runs good, and transmission is good, I think that sound fair,a round were I live 455s are hard to find.
Depends what you can get out of the bones of the car. Motor not worth much more than 500 if its stock and runs and Thats the high side. Trans if a short tail maybe worth a couple hundos . break even on the drive train as long as its not trashed
If you are doing the conversion to the 455 you can use the fan shroud which is a couple of hundered. Then when done the hulk is worth several hundred as scrap. Lots of other stuff on the car that would be worthwhile if you don't mind stripping it and then selling the parts.
I've heard this but at the same time I don't have an abundance of 455s near me so it would lead me to believe the value is more since demand is out weighing the supply.
Yeah that's one thing nice about buying a whole car and if there's anything particularly valuable I will try to get some money back but for the most part like trim and so on I'm not too concerned with making $5 here or there, would rather just give back to the awesome community.
The Riv engine is a good one.Its running,so it's worth it.For you it's actually cheap, where will you get a good running engine for $700 bucks?Bruno.
I think its cause of people like us that there aint that many 455s left out there any more ! I just got mine . for my 70 lark . now I have to see what all I need for the swap . the fun begins.
Well ended up buying myself a new competition pistol instead. Sorry anybody that was interested in parts.
It's a buy, imo. If I think I'm going to need part X in the future and I see part X for a fair price, I buy it. When I go to do something the last thing I want is to have to hunt down part X. You'll make your money back. It may have a posi rearend. The engine will also be worth something. They quit making them 40+ years ago, unless you go aftermarket. Jmo
