My dad and I took the GS out for a ride tonight. We we're just heading home when a mid 90's mustang flew by us. As it went by I noticed Roush stickers on it. Well the light ahead is red and he slammed on his brakes and we met him at the stoplight. He starts revving his engine and I'm just ignoring him. The light we are sitting at is very long and this kid will not let up. My dad finally says see how quick he is. He started off with half a car length on me because I let the clutch out slow so I wouldn't spin, but as soon as I floored it in first gear I was gone. I shifted into second and I saw him fading away in my rearview mirror. Eventually he caught up to us again, but he wouldn't pull along side of us. If I changed lanes so did he. Afterwards my dad looks over at me and says I think you shocked the **** out of him  . It was quite funny because the kid thought his car was fast. My father and I were also impressed that the GS did as well as it did stock. My father and I pulled in the garage and my dad looks over at me and says he got what he deserved. It was a great ending to a great night.
That's a great story! What really makes it great is it is a memory you made with your dad. Those are often precious and few. :TU:
Ken, I totally agree. It it a memory that I will never forget. My father had a 70 GS he bought new when he was young and when I was in my late teens we started looking for a 70 GS. We decided we wanted a Stage 1 and when the prices started to go up my dad hmmed and hahhed. We finally found one and bought it (4 years later). My father is now in his glory again. He drives the car more than I do. He was happier than I was when it was delivered to our house.
Brian- That's great to share a love of a car with your dad. My father originally bought my GSX and I bought it from him. I had a summer job when I was a teen where he worked and I recall guys I work with telling me "You should have seen how much rubber your dad caught in second leaving for lunch". Of course, that was when it was MY car and MY tires! ou:
Actually, I bought the car from him when I turned 16. And to be perfectly honest, I hadn't driven it prior to that! Now my cousins cars at 14 were a different story....
Fast With Class Brian, Cool story man :TU: My Dad has been gone for 4 years now, so I am a whole lot more aware of how special those types of times are. Thanks for sharing it with us too :3gears: :TU:
Didn't everybody have a GSX in their teens? I did also. (believe it or not, GSX's were cheap back in the '80's. )
....Yeah Ken - tell us how much you paid your Dad for the "X"-Mobile. Here's a picture of the "X" - In the back are Father and Son. We pulled the motor and alot more out of the car on this day. I got to talk with Ken's Dad that day (he passed not too long after....) and basically he said the car was bought as everyday transportation. ....Yeah Right !!! Like Dad Really thought a LimeMist GSX 4-speed was basic transportation ??? Mebbe your Mom believed that one ..... uzzled: :beer :TU:  BTW - Dad told me he was real proud that you were restoring *HIS* car p As to your choice of friends though ..... ou:
