For sale again. Last I saw, it sold on Jan 21, 2017 (happened to be my birthday & same day I made the deal on my '70 Stage1 4-sp) @ Mecum or BJ for around $125k (hammer price). https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/cars-for-sale/buick/gran-sport/2456283.html
It has a few details to correct but it's a really nice '70 Stage 1 4-speed. I'm a junk car collector, not a car seller, so it always seems strange to me when I see a nice car like this that changes hands regularly, or at least pops up for sale often. I guess that's the nature of the high-end muscle car market now, buy it, hold it, and hopefully flip for a profit.
That's the old Craigslist car from 2011 in NY. I remember it was offered for low 20s and Thornton ultimately ended up doing the restoration.
You mean $120's? @cpj69 I think has the history on it & when it first hit the market before the resto. IIRC, it was sold @ BJ then & went for big $ prior to being restored & that person lost big $ on it by the time he paid Thornton's & finally sold it which may have been when I referenced above. I first saw it for sale in 2015/16 on San Diego CL & IIRC for around $140k (may have been $125k). I know I was nervous that the seller of mine would've seen the auction price (may have actually been Sat. the 20th now that I think about it - I think the 21st was Sun.) & backed out of the deal.
As an aside: the seller who paid Thornton the ransom currently has a beautiful triple black '70 Stage 1 4-speed convertible that he cruises around sunny California in. I think he did okay.
That raises a good question: What is a no excuses (not saying this one is) Concours restored, numbers matching '70 Stage1 4-sp. hardtop worth?
Is this Greg's old car I believe he was from Jersey or something now out here in San Diego if so he does have a wicked 70 black conv... I bought the wheels he had off his white car before he sold it an extra set. That's what I have now on my car with dog dishes those were his
Car was ordered correctly. It’s a super car. Made for the drags or light to light street fight. Hopefully it enjoyed its youth testing rear tires and power shifts.
Aside from mine having power steering, they're the same car. A couple more upgrades and mine will be seeing some drag strip time, as orginally intended.
