Poor Skylark - looks like they kept the Buick dash though: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Buic...25fQQitemZ260638392927QQptZUSQ5fCarsQ5fTrucks
If you look close you can tell they never changed the rear trunk area from the Skylark to the Chevelle style. That's why the rear bumper does not line up like it is supposed to do. I wonder what type of brackets they fabricated to get the rear bumper on. Duane
I sold a convertible shell to a welder doing this 2 years ago. He had a Arizona Chevelle Coupe and my Skylark shell that needed quarters and floor patches. He always joked that he could do it because his own time wasn't worth anything. He transferred the dash and everything. His turned out better than this Chevelle Skylark convertible for about 6 grand total cost. A lot of work though...
If you want a Chevelle, buy one and restore it...This is ridiculous and looks like a 2 year old cobbed it together..........
I'm not sure why anyone would spend time doing this. Talk about doing things the hard way. It's not like Chevelles are hard to find. o No:
"Talk about doing things the hard way. It's not like Chevelles are hard to find." Maybe not but Chevelle Convertibles are more expensive to buy. Duane
"would it be considered a rebody?????" Nope, it might be considered done in "poor taste" but would not be a re-body. It is still wearing the original vin/dash and is still titled as a Buick. It's only had "a bit" of sheetmetal changed. "this should be illegal" Why, should it have been illegal for me to make a Buick out of parts from a few Chevys and Buicks when I built this car/truck? Duane
"Duane, hows that 2-door wagon coming?" It probably won't happen. We pasted together pictures of several different configurations of side windows and no mater what we did the car ended up looking too "hokey". The 70-72 wagon body lines just don't lend themselves to this. The thought was then to turn it into a 2-door sedan delivery, which would have the same style front doors as my X-Camino, but the angle of the vent windows are different on wagons/4-doors so the doors would be much harder to make, plus we might need to get custom glass fabricated for them. (El Caminos use the same vent windows/windshield as 2-door coupes.) Right now we are assembling the car as stock, but it might still end up as a sedan delivery before it's done. I think that would look really cool. Duane
seen the X camino in indanapolis coulpe years back it is a better lookin car then the chevelark if you are gonna do something like that then make it a show stopper like a GNcamino
Please go back and re-visit this shot. I know you can do it, I have seen your work. :TU: http://www.v8buick.com/showpost.php?p=1333513&postcount=39
