This wasnt a drag race from a stop light or anything, because most likely i would have gotten killed, but it was from a 40 mph roll. I was coming back from the drag strip one night and there were cars absolutely everywhere, I start merging onto the highway and I see some blue lights coming up behind me, so I start accelerating and going a little faster, he gets next to me and he hammered down and so did I. Its stayed dead even until we hit about 65 then i started to slowly pull away from him. I let off, because I was in fear of getting a ticket, at 120 and he was about 2-3 car lengths back, he then passed me up when i let off. I found out the next week that my car was running with a fouled out plug and a wire arching off the block. It felt good to shut him down top end while running 6 cyl. Those 2.73 gears pull pretty hard once you hit 60 MPH, but are worthless otherwise, just thought I would share this because it felt pretty awesome.

Good kill.......Someday I'm going to get a crack at one of those things.........I can't wait, I'm curious to see how 4,500 lbs of old Buick Nailhead iron stacks up to 2 or 3,000 lbs of fuel injected new crap. ( I might just get creamed :eek2: )

What did you run at the track?

I didn't run it at the track that day, I knew there was something wrong with it because off the line it was absolute sh** and keept bogging on me, from the fouled out plug and cut wire. It wouldn't post any good times with the stock 2.73 gear anyways, but it moves a lot better after 60.

The WRX was mildly moded, Ive never talked to the kid but I've seen him around, the WRX had at least an exhaust system, and I know he has a real nice GN, the WRX is his everyday driver.

Wow I want this "kid's" Job ( or his dad's ) . Not to many kids I know can run a 25K WRX with insurance , Unless your defintion of a kid is a 40 y/o. Not jealous just curious

I hope its because he works hard and likes his toys.

I do 'cept all my toys dont add up to 25K

    Cheers

Never talked to him, but hes probably in his mid 20s. Hes got a WRX AND a GN, I can't imagine he pays for everything himself, but oh well, some people have to work hard, others are lucky enough to get stuff handed to them. I wish my daddy paied for my car, it certainly wouldn't be as slow as it is right now.:Brow:

I raced a modded WRX with my 69 Sport Wagon once from about 35mph - 70mph. He started gaining on me and was able to pass me, so I guess I lost. Of course that wouldn't ever happen again...the Wagon's a lot faster now than it was then thanks to a 850 Speed Demon, a lot better tuning, MSD 6A, and 3.42 posi. Now it just needs a tranny rebuild and some TA Stage 1 heads :)

Actually, the insurance on WRX's is relatively cheap. It's not overkill like you'd think. If it's a WRX, and not the performance STi, then it's insured as a regular Impreza. One of my friends has one. Pretty cool, but the only good colors are blue and black. They're really not too fast off the line, but when you get up to speed and the turbo kicks in, look out!

If you know how to utilize the AWD for a stock, or close to stock car, the AWD will get you everytime. When your pushing some big HP numbers RWD is the way to go, this one was Silver with black rims, I really liked how it looked.

ah yeah, all those that say AWD is slow off the line dosent know how to launch one. yeah, if your driving around and take off like normal...sure...they are kinda slow. but you really launch those at like 5-6K youll be tearing off the line. 500hp RWD nightmare to launch....500hp AWD...loss of traction? whats that?

I'm not saying it's hard to launch it, but it just doesn't have the kind of power you need to "burn" someone. My point is that, why spend all that money on an import when you could use it to build a very stout big block? It's easy to hook up an AWD car; no doubt.

I guess what I meant to say is that from a rolling start, it doesn't have the acceleration that I would want.

There is no doubt in my mind that I would have lost if we raced from a stop. My car doesn't have a gear in it, so it is more of a highway ripper than from stoplight to stoplight.

    First... nice kill :TU:

Because it snows a lot here in upstate NY and its easier to drive a low 13 second AWD car in the snow than it is to drive a very stout big block in a 2WD car in the snow... nevermind that I wouldnt want to drive my Skylark in the snow. I dont know where that kid lives... but even if its a regular WRX... can't really beat a mid-low 14 second, decently reliable car to drive every day
