Just wanted to know if there is any way to repair a power top cyl. Had body shop install new lines before the car was painted. When I went to bleed the system yesterday the top line came off the drivers cylinder. Upon closer inspection it looks like they stripped the plastic threads on the top of the cylinder. Is that repairable or should I buy a new cylinder and if so where is the best place to get one. Also could the top be lowered/raised manually if I disconnect the pass side cylinder so I could use the car until I find the time to fix it the right way? Thanks Glenn
If you raise the top manually, either use a helper on the other side or get in the back seat to raise it so you don't bend anything.
check out www.hydroe.com they maybe able to rebuild your old cylinder or you can buy a new cylinder for 139 bucks.
In the long run you are better off buying new cylinders over having your rebuilt. And www.hydroe.com is a good place to look for them.
Thanks I already bought a new cylinder from Convertible Top Specialists in Fla. They were very nice on the phone and a new cylinder was 135.00.
And be sure to have GOOD medical insurance. It's a real back breaker. I ordered my cylinder from Hydro-e-lectric in Fla. 800 343-4261. $105 + shipping in 2003. Delivery was quick.
I just got off the phone with them. They are mailing out a FREE bleeder plug grommet for my convertible. To classy
