My first vehicle when I was 16 in 1983 was a '70 Super Wagoneer (buckets/console & fancy trim) w/a Buick 350 & 3.73 gears. Still into Buick 350's, lol. Should've kept the truck - Didn't realize how rare the Super Wagoneers were.

Never heard the term "super wagoneer", was it badged as such, or is that just a name you made up?

Introduced in the 1966 model year, the Super Wagoneer was intended for customers seeking all the above qualities, but with more luxury. The Super Custom became a third trim level above Standard and Custom, adding the most luxurious package ever offered in a 4x4, plus a 270hp, high-compression, four-barrel version of the 327.

I'd never heard it until recently from a couple guys on here when I told them my old one had buckets/console & posted pics & realized it had a lot more stainless trim than others and they said I had one of the super rare "Super Wagoneers." Less than 1k made was what someone said - Not sure if total or per year. I guess what @sean Buick 76 posted confirmed it. It may have had badging indicating such but I don't remember for sure. Sold it a long time ago.

Edit: So I just read the Motor Trend piece Sean linked to and apparently mine must've been "Custom Special" which the piece even says are often confused w/ "Super Wagoneers."

About 10 years ago I was trying to convince Bobb Mackley to build a Buick 350 with his 15 year old son Anthony. He wasn’t too interested as he had a bunch of 455. His plan was a mild 550 hp 455 for Anthony’s first car. Mild compared to Bobbs 800+ hp builds.

Bobb told me “if I had a Buick 350 in front of me I would build it but I only have 455s” The challenge was accepted and I went about finding a Buick 350 close to his location in Michigan. I happened upon a good running 350 Buick still running in a 68 Super Wagoneer. I listened to it run over the phone, paid him for it and added extra $ to have it secretly delivered to Bobbs shop! A few weeks later Bobb called me laughing and said he would build it. The super wagoneer was re powered with a big AMC V8.

This engine went onto make big power and as far as I know it’s currently getting TA alum heads and a larger pro charger! it was also the test bed for the Burton SBC roller rocket conversion that saved hundreds vs TA roller rockers.
