For the 15X7 Steel Wheel, not Rallys, what kind/brand of tire and what sizes were available? Was a redline tire available?

    Thanks, Keith

    welp

John Gentner had a red one recently, with doc's, that had steel rims/trim rings/dog caps with G60-15 white ltter tires.

    Hmmmm...

I don't think that I could ever put steel wheels on my car. But has anyone accurately weighed a steel 15X7 and a rally 15X7??

I "think" the steel wheels weight more, not sure though. I'm not worried about the weight, really, how much heavier can her car really get :Do No: Its 4135lbs now.

I would rather not put white letters on it, I think it would look sharp with Red Lines if they were available.

G78R14 was one of the standard sizes. That becomes a 215/75R14 in today's tires. The diameter is 27 inches.

I may be wrong, but I believe I read a post on here that '69 was the last year for redlines (on GM cars anyway). Maybe someone else can fill that in. I'll search and see if I can't find the post about that, it was probably under one of the pure stock forums.

    For 1970 cars.
The only size tire originally available for the steel or Chrome 15" wheels was the Goodyear Polyglass GT G60-15 raised white letter tires. The steel wheel had a dog dish center cap with a trim ring. I had a 70 Stage 1 with a set and they looked very nice.
Red lines were available in 70, but the assembly manual lists them as only available as an H70-14 Wide Oval, no 15" sizes.

The assembly manuals for 1971 and 1972 both list the red lines being available in the H70-14 size only, no 15" sizes.
    Hope this helps.

It is good to hear from Duane,

I hadn't seen you much lately on the BB and was afraid we did you in in August!

No way, the get together at my house in August was one of the best times i've had in a long time. The neighbors are still talking about it, they loved it.

The main reason I have not been around is college. I have one more semester to go and between work and school I have very little time left. I haven't even had time to touch the olds in the garage, or do much with the business, but watch out this spring.

The other reason is that there are quite a few knowledgable people on this board. Most of the time originality questions are answered before I get to them. I think its great, as thats why this BB was formed.

    Bill,
I am going to our Local Community College and will be getting 2 Associate degrees; Architecture, and Computer Aided Drafting and Design.
It was something I needed to do. Twenty+ years ago I didn't graduate from Penn State and felt the need to "Fix" the problem. It's much tougher, time wise, to go the second time, but I am more focused now. Three years ago I didn't know how to turn a computer on, now I draw mechanical systems in buildings everyday in AutoCAD. I even drew 2 versions of my X-Camino as a class project. One is the "X-Camino", the other is a "Sport Camino" with emblems only and no stripes.

Cool Duane! So you drew your Camino in a cad program? Any possibility that you could take a screen shot of it and post a picture? That would be super cool!!!!!!!:Brow: :Brow: Sorry, my curiosity is killing me....

    Chris,
There's no way I know to bring an AutoCAD drawing into here without making all the lines look choppy. I used AutoCAD to do parts of the 15" wheel article in the "Buildsheet" and the text got fuzzy.
But I'll make you a deal, I will send you a Paper copy and if you can get it on here thats great. It has a side and rear view of the "X-Camino", and the same for the "Sport Camino" version. I showed this drawing to my car-nut friends and they laughed when they saw the posi tag hanging off the "X" rear axle cover. I use pieces of this drawing to illustrate the locations for the decals that I sell.

I will print one off at work. Send me your info and I will mail it.

Hey, Duane - If you send your autocad file (I assume DWG?) to my e-mail (csmith@ussco.com), I've got a program on my laptop that converts autocad to a more "user friendly" format. It may just work!
