I have tried searching for this with limited results. Would anyone happen to know what convertible top colors were offered for a 70 GS? Were certain colors only available with certain body colors? Thanks in advance. Happy Thanksgiving.

    seriously..

According to my 70 Assembly manual, revision Nov 5 1969

    Available ragtop colors were

White sales code 1, cisco (trim tag) code A
Black sales code 2 cisco code B
Sandlewood sales code 5, cisco code F

Dang.. green would have been nice.. maybe a custom Pea green for this STG 1 car there Mr Lore?

    Larry,

by looking at your avatar, I would guess that your cowl tag would say 68 F on it, next to "PNT".

If the car was orginally that color brown, which appears to be Saddle brown poly, code 68.. interstingly enough, the assembly manual calls that "buckskin metallic"

The F would be for the Sandlewood top.

    JW,
When are you going to get with the times????? :puzzled:
No one wants a black, white, saddle top anymore!
You want one of the cool colors.....you know pastel colors......I think fuscia will really set that car off and be unforgettable :Brow: Then.....all you have to do is contact some wheel manufacturer to make a 22" rim that looks like a stock Buick 15" rallye. I bet if you did this your business would double or triple! :TU: :beer

Thanks everyone for all the information. I am thinking of putting a new top on it before next spring and am trying to decide between black and the current color sandlewood. It probably would be best to stay with what was original, but black might look pretty good with the dark brown paint color.

    Larry,
Who cares what color the top is. When do you ever drive a convertible with the top up?????

    Hi Dave,
When you live in the Pacific Northwest, you end up having it up more than you would care to. Does anyone have any current prices they have been quoted for installing a new top on a 70 GS? Thanks.

This is one of the best sites I've found for ID and resto info, but it doesn't say anything about top colors... Check this out (Atlanta Buick) if you haven't before.

I have the same question for 71. Could you get a Lime Mist car with a green top? And what code would it be on the trim tag if it was offered?

I just did a complete top on a 70 GS.

    Cost was $1100

    This includes:

    1. New top
    2. New glass rear window
    3. New cables
    4. New pads
    5. New well
    6. New tack strips in 3 places
    7. Windlace
    8. Labor

He uses EZ-On tops which he said are the best and
have marks on the top for proper alignment. This man has
been doing tops for 40+ years and does all my tops for the last
15 years. Top is tight as a drum, no wrinkles or creases. Absolutely
    perfect!

Add $300-350 for conv top weatherstrip

Thanks George for the very detailed response. Now I have to wait for a day in January that the streets are clear of snow & ice and get it moved to a shop to have it done. Happy Holidays.
