In the top part of my driver seat, on a vertical side panel there is a small hole where a spring from the inside must have rubbed through. Of course, the GSX is 35+ years old and the seats have wear... but they are really still very nice...like a "patina". I actually really like the feel of the old seats! Anyway, I wonder if there is a place I could go to either buy an old seat skin...or a seat...or buy a section of an old black GS seat? If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreeciate them. Thanks! Paul
Finding a good quality "old seat or material" will be tough. More than likely it won't match the rest of the seat or interior. Your spring broke/punctured/ripped the vinyl because your seat foams have degraded/disintegrated with age. You will only temporarily solve the problem if you recover it with new material since you won't fix the actual problem. I think the best solution would be to get new seat foams and covers. I would do both front and back so they match. Legendary makes the best covers.
That passenger seat and back seat are both very nice so I thought if I could get some material... or even better, a used seat, I could bring it to a reupholstery shop to dedo the foam and repair or add the more worn seatcover. I saw Legendary at the GS Nationals and they do have very nice products so that is a good option if my million to one used seat option doesn't pan out. Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. Paul
With use the '70 'waffle grain' seat material will tear along the stitch lines, since the foam is old and tearing at the same time. I've had decent '70 Skylark bucket seats start tearing with regular use very quickly. That vinyl isn't very durable in its old age.... Just about any used, (if you can find one with this pattern) will be shredded....... Also check the springs when upholstering, the one in question may have come 'unclipped' from its mates under there........
If thats a real 70 GSX QQ Stage 1 4 speed you have there, then new seat covers are a no brainer considering that cars worth. Legendary does make the best fittting and highest quality seat covers for are cars. The guy that installed mine told me that they were very well made and easy to install. Funny thing was that he had never even heard of Legendary before. ou: The wait time to get them can be long at times to get them though. I had to wait about 10 weeks before I got mine.
