We have WS radiator tags available for 70-72 Skylark/GS with automatic transmission. $29 each. They are bare finish all you will need to do is powder coat or paint them black. You can order them at our website, www.thepartsplaceinc.com
Just in case all of you were wondering about the quality of these tags-they are excellent and look exactly like the originals. One tip of advice: when you get this tag,the metal finish has a plating on it. Before you powdercoat or paint this tag, glassbead or sandblast the tag and then you have a finish that is ready for painting.
Shane, I have a 1972 GS 455. The radiator tag has the following tag info. Can you tell me how to decode? 1A CF 45 SB How do you decode the tag you advertise? 1A XS 69 WS Thanks, George
It is "IA" not "1A" as you typed in. "IA" is the size of your driver's side tank. Those letters are embossed in the back of your tank. CF is the size of you passenger side tank. It is embossed on the back with a lettter in between which is the date code month. XS is the size of another passenger side tank. SB = the overall code for the different parts of your tank put together.
Jim, thanks for that info. Based on the Parts Place repro tag for 70-72 with AT which totally has different numbers then the one that came with my 72, do you think the tag on my 72 is also correct for a 72? Did they use multiple size tanks on the radiators of these cars? I am asking because I don't know if the tag on mine is correct and I am about to install the radiator. So if my tag is incorrect and the Parts Place has the correct tag then I would buy the correct tag now before I install the radiator. Part Place, your input would be much appreciated. You must have done some research before manufacturing this repro tag or deciding to sell the tag as the correct tag. Thanks, George
I believe there is a table for the different radiator combination of tanks etc. for different models in the 72 assembly manual. I know there is for a 70. I appears to me that when most radiators have been recored the tags get trashed so it would seem likely that your radiator has never been recored.
Jim, I did just have the radiator recored and told the company to be sure to keep the original tanks and the tag, which they did. I looked in the 1972 Chassis Service Manual and the Fisher Manual but did not find anything regarding radiators other than the installation along with the grille and overflow tank. No problem, I am not going to be concerned about the info on the tag, just going to install it.
Depends on the year. I got my 70 one from Duane. Jim Shiels (THEGSX on this board) has the 66 manual. John Diaz had a 72, but he lost his car in Katirna, and has not returned to the board. I know he shared it with some folks, but I don't know who has a copy. Maybe TimR?
72 radiator i just looked in the assembly manual for 72 all the codes are C,s cr, ce ,cf ,cl etc........
Hello Dreeesh, Which set of letters indicates the year. You say all the 72s are Cs. I have a CF on my tag. Can you help with my tag? My tag shows: IA CF 45 (these are in a verticle column) then there is a large SB. What do you think based on the 72 assembly manual? Actually, I just bought a reprint of the 1972 assembly manual from InlineTube.com but I am anxious to know about this tag. I could of bought it for a few bucks less on Ebay but I was already buying a few things from this outfir so I bought the manual as well. George
