I need the lace on the inside of the forward header bow. Black, I can dye it to make it perfect, but needs to be nice shape and correct grain.

    Pic attached.

    e-mail me at ritc1@shaw.ca

    Thanks

wow, my 70 doesn't even have that. I wonder if it got lost in the past. it would make sence to have something there too. let me know if you find a repop of that.

Hi Nate, I have a question for you then...how much room is there above where that piece goes? can you get your hand in there, could it be installed after the canvas is on the frame???

    Thanks

    Hey there Tim,
This is your Buick Buddy from 'Toon town .....
I may have the piece your are looking for if it is about 4 feet long u-channel vinyl in black. I don't know about installation because trim shop put it in when they did the new top. I will try and take some pics and send to you.

there is 5/8" at the canvas with the top up. HOWEVER. there is no room at the pads. (the white material in your picture) i was able to rase the top some and relax the top and get my fingers under the edge between the edge and pad but it was tight. another idea would be to slide the pad area in lengthwise and it woulden't be a problem, if the material will slide like that.

    Tim,
I have my 70 GS conv at the shop now. I just spoke to him, he has been doing upholstery and tops for 40 years. My top had that piece dry rotted.
He says he has that item and it is called "compact windlace". I hope to pick up the car on Thur or Fri. I will see if I can send you a pic. Price for the piece is very reasonable. So......it is available new but I don't know if it is an exact match. Better to have something there than nothing at all.

Thanks Nate and George, I will make a point of asking when I go get my tackstrip next few days. One other question for you guys, if you don't mind. The GM IPC shows a "spacer, center"" right in the middle of the front header bow...I don't recall seeing this and can find no evidence of what this is or how it may have been mounted. Any idea what they are talking about? IPC is 68-72

This convertible top thing would have been much easier if I had taken it apart, or seen one before!!! Quite the piece of hardware...

    Tim,
Let's see.......I must have stripped at least 20 A-body convertibles and never seen a spacer where you indicate. Would be nice to see a pic of so-called spacer.

Well yeah, I coudn't find one either in a picture or elsewhere. Here ya go, GM IPC circa 1972, note #8 near the front middle (sorry, board limits size so not very clear)...

guys is that "spacer" what holds in the top pads? there was something firm under mine right there. and just big enough to be covered by the pads.

or is that spacer actually the tack strip?
