Well guy's I found a 455 out of a 1976 Electra and I'm going to try my first enigne swap ray: , So a question for you veterans who have done this many times, What parts do I need to order from TA and is there anything you could tell me from your motor swaping experience that might help me be safe and have a good swap? Thanks in advance, Matt
I know for sure that you need to order frame pads and one side is a little tricky to bolt on. Use the 455 power steering bracket 350 bracket will fit but the belt will rub on the water pump.
depending on your trans you are using make sure your flexplate has the correct boltholes for your torque convertor if automatic i think that problem was mostly older 455s but when i did my swap my 350 trans convertor didnt fit and had to get a different flexplate or convertor also if you can get 74 and earlier heads it will bump compresion and hp on a 76 motor ,will be worth it as far as bolting in the mounts to frame go to sears and get sereral extensions 6in,9in,12in if they have and swivel/univerals and wrap some electical tape around the knuckle part to stiffen (3/8 drive and 1/4 drives) you should be able to tread the bolts in thru the a-arm openings as long as you take you time and once they are threaded do not tighten until you get all three in that way you can see some gap under the mount to see the bolts going into the mount and have some wiggle room to get the bolts started 350 fan shround wont work ,get a big block one or go electric fan you will need to chase down the resititor wire to the distributer since i assume you will be running the 76 hei distributer,it will run better with 12 volts instead of 9,the 76 alternater is internally regulated so use the 69 alternater or do a wining changeover for the internal reg alt you might want a bigger radiator 3 or 4 core
