Hey all, Couple questions for you... I have an opportunity to pick up a low mileage (84k) 69 Riviera. You already know it's got a 430 in it. The car needs a bunch of body work, but the drivetrain is tight and the interior is decent. 1) What's the potential for Hot Rodding this car ?? 2) What would be a fair price (given the above facts) to offer for it ?? 3) Is the 430 worth a damn ?? Thanks! -ERIC
A '69 Riv can be a great car. Terrific sleeper. The 430 can be quite a stout perfomer as most all 455 parts will interchange, The rockers are oiled through the head rather than through the pushrods but that is an easy mod to make, Bottom end oiling needs to be improved also fairly easy. TH400 is basically bulletproof, Got a limited slip? The big Buick diff is quite tough. I would think your big problem with this car would be body and trim parts. I owned a black '69 Riv with buckets and a console the previous owner had put in an unknown aftermarket cam and put a shift kit in the tranny. This monstrous car with L60/15's on the back and 3.64 posi was a blast. Hammer it in first nail second at about 5200 and both rear tires would let loose and the car would start sliding sideways while painting two big black stipes on the pavement for about 25-30 feet.:Brow:
