This is my latest acquisition . Since only 2 ( some say 3 ) made , it is a clone. Pretty correct. I am told that they came with a white top. The car has black buckets and the wheels are painted black. Should be argent silver of gold but I am going to leave them black. I like the car as is but I want your opinion on the top color. White or Black. It is a driver for us and the top will be down much of the time. Tell me your opinion my Buick Olds and other brothers :bglasses:
how about a big ole Gold Stripe down the middle of the top? Remember, George Hurst was no shrinking violet when it came to promoting and designing these things. Paint the wheels in the grey.
Good looking, even with the black top! p PGlade Yes, in '69 the white top had a gold stripe painted down the center like the Hardtops. As for the wheels, go for the GOLD! Some of the dealers yanked the wheels and painted them gold as soon as they came off the truck. :3gears:
If it were mine,It would have a white top on it by end of the day. I hate black tops on light cars. And I also would paint the wheels gold. ...Oh one more thing Drive it everywhere :3gears:
after further consideration I vote for gold wheels also--the gold color they used on those cars looks great so why not add a little more of it to the car. The dark (black) wheels just hide the stylishness of the wheel....the gold would really bring them out. The SSII/III's are really "versatile" wheels in that you can paint em body color or put them in a "nuetral" color like silver or grey and they still look great. I had a pair of leftover dark gold wheels from a 70 442 I owned years ago...car got totalled and I saved the wheels and the Radial T/As. Got the next car and bolted them on...white car/black stripes and looked pretty cool with the wheels. I hated the trim rings back then and thought they looked better with just paint/caps/and small inner bezels. Kind of gives the car the poverty cap/painted steely look with a little more "style".
Sorry ou: p  Now I did not show her the picture, thats your fault  I like the white top and gold wheels also :TU:
Traditionaly, customers most often color matched the top to the interior. (at least most Buick customers anyway..) I would say if it has a black interior keep the black top. Additonally, if the top is a different color of white, it could contrast strangely. For a driver in your part of the world, that the top is down anyway most the time.. and the top boot certainly must be color matched to the interior, it seems maybe not the best expendature to change something that won't be seen much.. unless it needs a top anyway, can't tell from the photo. An Electron top (which is the only one to put on) along with pro installation, is not an inexpensive proposition these days. Nice car...
I fully concur. White top, gold wheels. WITH TRIM RINGS or buy the Coker repros in chrome. (like the 83/84 Hurst wheels). Cars like this should never get the dog dish cap treatment and really need bright wheels. Neither of those two Hurst convertibles were part of the production build on line and were converted 442's by Hurst (but I don't think Demmer did it). Just like this one. Fabulous car, John. Keep it and enjoy it for a while!
JW made a good point. The top boot is black to match the interior. The top is black and matches the interior. Personally I like the black wheels. It is hard to see in the picture but the trim rings are not flat but slanted so they look very close to the H/O wheel The spare is a correct H/O wheel with argent silver. The top will be replaced this winter or whenever my trim man can get to it but may be black. Flynbuick will tell you that top color is important to me . I have used Ford colors so that the top did not clash with parchment interior on my Silver W-30 and a red 66 tri power car. If it is white and the car is not the same shade-- bothers me -
It would look odd to have the black interior and the white top. Now that you are in your eighties you need to start driving one to work. This one. I assume we will see it at Charlotte next week. I need to park something special beside that Olds.
White top, white top, white top.... When do you see the boot when the top is up, and when do you see the top when it's down and the boot is on? Find someone with a Gbody that has the later model chrome SSIII's with a gold or grey spider (preferably 15's). Borrow two of them to see what it'd look like. You'd like yourself in the morning. :TU: BTW does that car have A/C? I sure hope so with a black top and a black interior. Three of my old Pontiac Catalina Convertibles had black interiors with a white top. Honduras maroon 63, Dark Blue 63 (repainted Sherwood green), and a red 64. I loved the look. 61 had a white top and the tricolor red/maroon/white interior. That was class.
Thats a beautiful car! the 69 H/O is next on my list of cars to clone. I've wanted one for as long as I can remember. Unfortunately I can't make anything pretty out of my 69 Skylark convertible. Go with the white top and gold wheels. Bob
