Hi,Anyone know what gear ratio a 69 GS400 4 speed non/air car with factory posi rear would have come with factory issue? Are they the same as 1970 4 spd non air cars and come with 3.64 ratio? Are 69 and 70 the same rears or are there differences between them? Thanks

A 69 GS 400 4 speed would be factory equipped with a 3.42 open axle.
    Posi had to be ordered.
Only non AC 1969 GS Stage 1 cars auto or stick got deep factory 3.64 posi.
Rear axles are basically the same in 69 and 70 however, ring gear bolts are 7/16 diameter in 70 as opposed to 3/8 diameter in 69.

Rich I suspect you are right. Maybe I am thinkig a 69 4 speed, stage 1, non AC, has the 3.64.

Rich nailed it. Standard rear for a 69 4 speed- AC or non-AC is a 3.42 open (single track). Optional is a 3.42 posi, 3.64 posi, and a 3.91 posi.
The Stage 1's are 3.64 for Non-AC, 3.42 for AC cars... Doesn't matter if it's 4 speed or automatic.
The black 69 GS 400 4 speed non-AC ragtop I owned had the optional 3.64 posi..

The axle bearing retainers (outer) also differed between the two years. The axle shafts would interchange, but there was a definate change made in 1970.
