It's a 69 Wildcat with a THM 400, right? There is a case connector with a single spade connection just forward of the speedometer cable connection. (one more connection, speedo cable)

That's your kickdown (a.k.a. passing gear). It needs to be hooked up. See if there is a gas pedal switch under the dash.

You don't absolutely need it, but it certainly makes the car more responsive. Will it hurt anything disconnected, no, but it will make the transmission shift at a lower RPM at WOT. Why would you not hook it up when doing so is so simple?

Okay i think i figured it out theres a black and white wire as well as a yellow one that plugs into the switch then on the fire wall theres a black and white wire that short and has no end.

The black and white wire comes out of my '68 Skylark harness.
Starts at the firewall connector (bulkhead connector for both engine/front harnesses) and comes out of the harness on the back of the firewall near the voltage regulator and down to the kick down connector on the transmission.

That wire inside goes to the switch connector above the gas pedal.

So, your wire to the transmission (black with whit stripe) may have been cut or broken off.

Can you see where the black/white wire leads to? (sounds like it is from the harness to the transmission.)

No the wire goes up into the dash it's a bot of a mess the previous owner(s) kmew nothing of cable management . However I only see one wire with black and white stripes ome end connects to the switch so i believe that has to be it.

You wouldnt happen to know what kind of end would of been on it so ai can just splice it on.

If you look at the drawing, you can see the accelerator and the kickdown switch above it.

The black and white wire goes from that switch to the firewall/bulkhead connector behind the fuse box inside the car by the emergency brake pedal.

The two harnesses, one for headlights and one for engine, exit on the firewall side under the brake master cylinder.

The engine harness travels to the right, above the back of the engine to about the middle of the firewall near the top, and where the voltage regulator is mounted.

The black and white wire is "split out" and goes down the right side of the engine/transmission to the connector on the transmission. (the "arrow" indicates the engine harness travels on to do its thing...)

The engine harness contains the black and white wire and it exits (splits out) the harness around the area of the voltage regulator. It may be left or right, and it my split out close to the bulkhead connector.

Study the image and then take a look and see of you can trace the black and white wire so that we can know if you have everything except the terminal/connector that I think is missing from where you say the wire is cut.

Let me know if this helps or not. :)
