I would use 15 X 8" in the back. The 68-69 need about 5" back spacing on the 8" wide rim. You can run up to P275/60-15 in the back.

Front can be a 15 X 7" wheel with 1/2" backspace. P25/60R-15 is a nice size for the front, or all around if you prefer.

If you flip a rim around and lay the outside of it on the ground, back spacing is the distance from the bead mounting surface to the lug mounting surface. If you order new rims, you need to specify the back spacing.

I have a 70, and I use a 15 X 8 with 4 1/2" back spacing. I am pretty sure the 68-69 needs a bit more on an 8" wide rim. You may want to wait for the 68-69 guys to respond to this thread, to be sure. I believe 5" is what you need. With the right back spacing, yes, the 15 X 8 will fit.

I have 16x8 that have a 4.5" back spacing on them and had to trim a bit off of the wheel well lip to get them to fit. I prefer to run the same size tires/rims front and back for rotation purposes and mine is a daily driver. I believe my tires are 225 65 16's. My suspension is all new also and the tires don't rub.

And that fits with my post that says the 68-69 need a bit more back spacing. 5" back spacing on an 8" wide wheel should do it.

1969 - 15" 275x60x15, 5.25 backspacing... rear lip is trimmed. Probably could still go a little wider.

1968 15X8 WELDS 5.5 back space 275/60/15 rubs little on pass side inside 5" would fit much better.

I forgot to add, but mine had skirts originally which has a tab and bracket that stick out and that's what needed to be trimmed. I took a wheel well trim piece and I believe I could have trimmed it back another .5" - 1" to the inboard edge of the installed trim for more clearance.
