'68 Riv tail light question

Still having my vehicle worked on off and on. My taillights come on, but don't flash. Easy enough fix there but I was wondering if what my neighbor thought was true---that the lights don't flash, but "track" from the inside to the outside instead. Does that make sense? Like it lights up, but instead of flashing the turn signal dissapears in incremeants.

That true or just a bad memory on his part?

Sequential turn signals, like the old Thunderbirds?
    No, not on the Riviera.
I remember several years ago there were kits / schematics you could get to convert to sequential turn signals.
Haven't come across those in some time.

Early Mercury Cougars started the sequential rear turn signal fad.
The electro-mechanical control box with stepping relays almost filled half the entire trunk, and cost a small fortune to replace damaged out-of-warranty units.
The Rivs never featured sequential rear signals, as Dale has stated, but they are prime candidates for the conversion. and with todays micro mini-electronics, the control unit would probably be quite small and reliable.
The centre bulb in the three lamp light is parking lamp only, so you would have to replace that single contact socket with a double contact socket and bulb, and modify the rear wiring harness accordingly, as I have done on my '68 - they look better at night with all lights on one side flashing, and you are much more visible with the 4-ways on ! :TU:

Yeah, when ever I take the cover off my car in drive way one of the things people comment on are how cool the tail lights are beings so skinny.

The other comment I get when people look at it is "Is that an early Camaro or Firebird"(all my badging was removed by the previous owner).

I used to feel that way but
    1) at least they think its well known "cool" car...Not a bad accolade from the unwashed masses
    2) They aren't asking if its a "hemi".
