I'm putting the cluster back together and I have a light blue wire that doesn't have a home. The service manual lists it as "buzzer"

And it says it goes here-

    IMG_20240531_195340_490.jpg

But that's the screw that holds the wiring harness to the back of the cluster here-

So I'm not sure what buzzer they're referring to and why would it go into a nylon insert?

Anyone have any ideas? I'm at a loss here

I think that's the speed buzzer.

It doesn't seem to have one

Yes. Blue wire is grounded at the ignition switch with key in, and orange wired supplies power from "Clock" side of fuse block.

That spot is where the buzzer mounts.

(I disconnected mine cuz it was annoying.)

So in this case, it doesn't get connected to anything then because it doesn't have speed alert right?

Correct. Mine activated when the key was in the ignition. My car didn't have speed alert, so I am not 100% sure if it uses the same wires/circuit for both, or if there were two buzzers.

I can go to the shop and get the manual and look it up if you like. You got things to do sticking parts in and stuff.

My 68 has a buzzer that buzzes when you leave the key in ignition

I also believe it's the speed alert buzzer. It would be open and taped up to the harness, if not equipped with that feature.

Idk jack about '68s but in '70 speed alert used the same buzzer as the key in ignition. Speedo tied into the buzzer harness.

Max Damage I'm working on it!

I think all of the '68 cars had the buzzer. It was the key left in ignition buzzer, and if you had speed alert that also.

So I checked this morning- the key buzzer works, so this light blue wire is just for the speed alert. So there you have it. Thanks for the help fellas
