So the GS is in the shop for a front suspension rebuild. I bought it from the original owner and as far as anyone knows, the front fenders have never been off the car. Does anyone have an idea what the "K" means? From the vin my car was built in Flint. Could "K" = "November"? Or is it some kind of alignment marker for the fender?

When I was in the Navy, and somebody overhauled a pump whose internals hadn't seen the light of day in decades, they'd use a paint pen to put in their initials. Never mind that 600 PSI steam in the turbine, or a zillion gallons of water going through the pump side would wash it off. Maybe some graffiti artist put his initial on it?

It's possible that it doesn't mean anything to the car. I've had a lot of cars apart over the past 40 years and have seen firewall markings that actually do pertain to the car but I have also seen some that made no sense at all. I've even seen things like "$114" chaulked on the firewall.

I read an article years ago that was written by a guy who was a plant manager back in the 60's. In this article he stated that much of the time the guys on the line used it to communicate with each other, such as 'B4' may very well mean breakfast at 4:00am tomorrow. Knowing that, unless I can verify what the markings mean I will not put them back on the car during the restoration.

Thanks - I'm planning to redo carpet this winter so I'll keep an eye out for any paper work I may come across. Eventually I'll be dropping the gas tank too. Another hiding place for build sheets.

K is Aqua Mist , but your trim tag is L teal blue. Someone had a change of heart.
On the build sheet not likely on '68 to find anything above the tank. You should check the back seat cushions and the bucket seat backs. Good luck.

I sorta wondered about these as well, these are on a 69 GS.

It is probably not a "K" but a "P" that the guy added a "tail" to as he finished writing the "P".

It would stand for Power Drums.

My writing sucks so I can understand this.

My car had the paint code "53" and trim code "168" in that area.

Good point. I know that the car was repainted 10-12 years ago. I was told it was repainted the original color. I've seen other K-code Aqua Mist cars and they all seemed a much lighter shade of blue than what I've got. If it's not wearing its original L-code now, I may be surprised in a year or two when I paint it.
