So I'm looking at the production #s for GSs on buickperformance.com and according to the #s they didn't make any 1968 GS 400s with a 3-speed on the column. I have a 68 GS400 bench seat 3-speed auto on the column. Is it bogus? I was under the impression that it was pretty much original. Please tell me my car is not a fake!

There is no way it is a fake. Don't worry!

( I had a 70 Wildcat 3 on the tree... bought and resold cheap in the 80's.) :spank: :Dou: :(

EDIT: It may be a fake GS400, though. I'd bet real money it came from the factory with that transmission and shifter.

I do have the protecto plate from the second owner with the imprint from the original owner. Will this tell me anything?

They are referring to 3 speed manual transmission on the column, not autos.

They made plenty of auto 3 speeds on the column.

    :Dou: phew!

I'm looking at the chassis and body parts book and it shows the GS400 as model #s 4637 & 4667. The 2nd-5th digits of my VIN are 4637. I assume that is not a coincidence?

I was getting nervous because I've never seen another GS like mine. White interior w/ a bench and the blue with a white painted roof, but according to the paint and interior codes, it is correct. I don't know that I've ever seen one with a different color roof that wasn't vinyl.

    I have a 68 GS 400 3speed manual on the floor, only 1 of 79 built.

Nice, my brother has a 69 GS 400 convertible that was originally a 3 speed manual, which I guess is super rare, but the guy he bought the car from lost the original trans. :Dou:

The Painted roof option is pretty rare, I sold a 69 Stage 1, blue with a white painted top earlier this year. In 68 they made 391 "two Tone" painted GS 400 coupe's, which I would assume includes the painted roof cars. Not sure if there were other "two tone" paint scheme's available or not.

4637 is the correct VIN sequence for a GS400 coupe, 4667 is a GS convertible, and 3437 would be a GS 350 coupe.
