Hi ,I have taken my motor out today in my 68 Buick skylark 4 door ht,and the engine serial # is 485428 the block date code is B151 and the head casting date is C261,would this be possible that it is an 1971 455 H.O are this an good motor.
A 68 wouldn't have a 455 unless the original motor was swapped out later on. Also, I do not believe the numbers you've posted will tell us anything about what motor it is. I assume it is a V8? How many valve cover bolts? 6 bolts is a 350, 5 bolts is a 400/430/455 engine family.
Valve cover as 4 bolts an it is not the original motor if you go whit the serial # it is an 455 an the block date code is b151 /February/15 and the 1 for 71 this is what i have found but not sure.
I don't know what engine used a 4 bolt valve cover, but it is not a 455. 455 = 5-bolt valve cover. It isn't an inline 6 cyl, is it? That was the base engine in a 68 Skylark.
Why do you think the engine serial # indicates it is a 455? As I stated, no 4-bolt valve covers on the 400-455 engine family. They are all 5 bolt.
Here some picture and what i have found in to the serial number charts. 1971 455 CID #485428(LATE HO) 1971 (455 c.i.d./late H.O.) #485428 1971 (455 c.i.d./late H.O.) #485428
Its not a Buick engine. looks like a Chevy motor. EDIT. I looked again and maybe not chevy either. Just dont look right. Pontiac? Olds? NOT Buick.
Would anybody be able to tell me what exactly is this motor whit these info serial# 485428,block date code B151 AND HEAD CASTING DATE C 261 THANKS FOR YOUR HELP .I NEED TO ORDER SOME PARTS FOR THAT MOTOR AND I NEED TO KNOW WHAT IS THIS MOTOR TO ORDER PARTS ,THANKS IN ADVANCE .
You may want to try one of the Pontiac boards, as they would likely have much more Pontiac 455 expertise than you'll generally find on a Buick board. Or try posting on "The Other Bench", where some other make owners hang out.
