'68-'69 Pass. side mirrors

My wish list for reproduction parts starts with a passenger side rear view mirror for '68-'69 Buicks. These were the same for both years and all models-and were done in the non-remote version. It seems that there is enough interest in the GS 400's and Skylarks to make it worth someone's while to make these. I'm sure they would be a popular item and there are more than a few of us full size Buick owners who would buy one (or more)! David

  2. Very few 68/69 A-body Buicks were ordered with the optional passenger side mirror. I would love to have one myself. My instincts tell me that the cost and subsequent selling price would be very discouraging. Would love to hear a guess-timate though...

Considering this is an optional piece, and there are MANY standard parts that aren't even currently being reproduced, all I can think is...good luck... :(

Just to give you an idea of the market for these, here's one with 4 days left, it's at $112 and still hasn't hit the reserve.

    68-69 passenger side mirror.

I'd like one too, but not for that kind of money. :ball:

    69GS400s ...my own amusement ride!

My Convert came from the factory with it.....but when i bought the car it had later model sports mirrors on it.

I left it that way for years....thinking I'll find it sooner or later. Well.....6 years later and I still hadn't found one. Car was coming out of the resto shop in a few weeks and i NEEDED it !! An NOS one came up on Ebay...in the box with the gasket and all the mounting hardware - I wasn't around for the end of the auction but my high bid was like $225 !!

.....It ended up going for over $250 !!

That next monday morning I went through Hemmings and made a list of EVERY vendor saying "XX Parts cars....trim etc" ...you get the Idea. I made up a fax that read something like "Wanted IMMEDIATELY - 69 Buick Passenger side Mirror - NO PITTING....Money NO OPTION !!!" and I faxed it to over 25 places.

Within an hour I got a call from one place and he said he's got one....very nice chrome W/ no pitting, hardware and gasket too.....But it didn't have the glass. I said Sold !! FedEx it to me.

He said.....dont you want to know how much ?? Ohhhh yea.....

"Well.....I wanted $50 for it but i thought the glass was good - how about $35 ??"

It was at the Glass place ($8 for correctly ground mirror with beveled edges) and at the shop 1 day before I took delevery.

....and it looks as good as NOS - So....they're out there !!

    What mirror?

Though not correct, I picked up an '80 - '81 NOS GM mirror on Ebay a couple weeks ago for $20.99.
Same style, sans the Tri-Shield though.
I got tired of waiting for a more correct one to come up and sell for an amount I could afford.
    Does the trick!
I don't show my car though, so it isn't much of an issue for me that it isn't more correct.

What gets me is, I was collecting them dang mirrors off cars at junkyards for a long time and putting them on the cars I was driving at that time. Or giving them to friends to put on their cars.
I never gave any thought to them being hard to find in the future.

Well gang, I'm still in the market for one-keep your eyes open for one at swap meets, junkyards, etc. Better yet, if you find one, get it! I'll definately buy it from you-(providing it isn't marked up to the stars!) :Brow: David

If anyone is interested.....I have the matching NOS drivers NON remote mirror sitting on the shelf.....that I'll prolly never use. Would much rather see it on someone's car than on my shelf

    let me know.....
