I am in the process of converting my 68 skylark to front disc brakes. I have a 71 style valve that mounts to the frame but it will not clear my headers like the 68 dist block and the front to rear brake line was replaced in stainless last year and it uses a smaller fitting than the 71 style requires. It seems that with a 68/69 hold off valve I could order a set of factory front lines in stainless and still use my rear line and clear my headers. Inline tube has the part and bracket for a 68 for $125. I would be willing to pay and or trade the 71 valve for the 68/69 style.

    Thanks

    Keith,
I have encountered a similar problem on a 72 Skylark with a 455 I installed and had disc brakes. I removed the mounting brkt from the combo valve and that gave me the additional 1/2 of clearance to keep the header tube from rubbing the combo valve.

You can do several things if you are not a purist:

    1. Remove the combo brkt and mount the valve to the frame rail
    2. Use the original hold-off valve as original cars
    3. Contact in-line tube and order their F-body set-up which mounts the combo valve just below the master cylinder (same set-up as found on the 70-81 Camaro and Firebird models)

George, Thanks for the ideas. I am looking for the original setup now because I have the front to rear line in stainless only a year old and the fitting on the end of it is smaller than the one needed fro the 71 valve. If I use a 68/69 hold off mounted to the master cylinder I can re use the factory dist block which will clear the headers and the front to rear line will fit. I'm just putting off, trying to work around spending $125 on that hold off.

I "may" have one from a 69-70 Cutlass. I will have to look.
