I seem to be having issues with my trans, I'm not sure but it may be stuck in high stall in the torque converter or may the switches at the top are not working anymore or when it was refreshed it wasn't done right. I don't have the passing gear like I used to (before I changed a couple things) and going down the highway my rpm is 2400 - 2500 at 55 mph. I have 3:23 gears in the rear and I did replace the speedo gear so it's correct or almost correct with my tire size and gear ratio. The torque converter was opened up and the shop made it a bit stronger by adjustment to the tines. The trans it self was refreshed by another shop guy, he used parts from a th350 kit that had he said would work for my trans and I'm not sure if it was something he may have done or didn't do. I seem to have power to the switches at the top by the carb but how do I know if the switch is really working when I want the passing gear to kick in, can this be checked when the car is not in motion. Could the micro switches on the firewall be faulty, if those 2 wires have power outside at the trans does that mean they are working and the problem is internal? Any help, leads appreciated.
I have purchased a 200R4 trans but it needs to be checked over as well and would like to stay original.

The ST transmissions work with the 2 wire system.... one for the down shift ,,,, other for the TQ,,
just wire in a temporary 2 wire system using push button or toggle switches... drive the car one button at a time you'll be able to tell just what is working and what is not....

Also you should be able to hear the solenoids click motor not running.... Although it would be better to separate the wires altogether.

I'm not too confident that the shop you used was familiar with a switch pitch transmission. Not sure if any TH350 parts interchange into an ST300. It's very easy to check the function. All you need is a 12 volt wire and a switch inline. With the engine off, run a wire from the battery positive terminal directly to the transmission. Pull both connections off the case connector, and then touch each spade with the wire and you should be able to hear the solenoids click. One is the kick down, the other the stator control. If you wire it up with a switch, you can drive the car and check function. You can also just pull the wires off at the transmission and drive the car. Without power, the torque converter should be in low stall.

    TrunkMonkey Totally bananas

If the shop opened the converter and welded the stators, that would be no bueno.

Sort of taking the Switch out of your Pitch...

And the solenoid may still function/click.
