I'm interested in getting one of the Ebay cast aluminum star wars air cleaners for my '63 Rivi. Anybody try this before? Any clearance issues? Also, the cleaner doesn't come with a base. What are my options as far as that's concerned? Thanks.
I bought one last summer its a rough casting and needs some finishing it needs tapping for screw holes the side didnt have anuff meat on them to tap so i didnt bother a lot of sanding and i had to fill some casting marks i had to drill out the front to put on the buick letters(i used deck lid letters from a 67 ). as far as the base i used a 11 morso air cleaner base and it fit but you could probley cut out your base and make it fit. I made an offer of 150.00 and it was accepted maybe you can do better all and all iam happy with it but be prepared your not going to get it out of the box and bolt it on your car Good Luck Gerry
The original Star Wars aircleaners had a base that fits Quadra Jet carburetors, which they onle began using in '66 on GS's and Rivieras. The earlier cars either have a Carter or a Rochester 4v which has a smaller top opening than the Quadra Jet. Since it doesn't come with a base, then I'd do what 67Fitz recommends and fab up a base that fits your carb and the Star Wars top.
Jim, I have one of the alum starwars aircleaners. I was going to use it on my 63 Wildcat, and have gone a different route. $100 its yours.
Thanks for the replies and advice. So I guess that I shouldn't have any clearance issues with the hood.
