    Hey all,
I have a 67 GS, it has GS badges on the sail panels, quarter panels, grille, and trunk trim. The interior is like a special, bench, collum shift. It also has 2 fake hood scoops. I know GS Buicks pretty good but this one stumps me. I need to know what exactly it is and how rare. The body tag reads as follows:
    _____________________________
    06b
    st-67-43407 bf02332-body
    tr-110 p2-paint
    b80 b90 c08
    2430 140133
    _____________________________
    The door jamb has:
    43307 7z117934
    Engine id:
kp239-cyl deck. 4k2008431-fr. left cyl. Cast on bellhousing area b1357943 4

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Murph..:beer

    The tags say it's a 67 2dr Special.

    gs4u2c Is that a 442?

I am not an expert, but I believe 1967 California GS's did share VIN's with the Special. I take it is has a vinyl roof and a 340 4V? If so, it appears it may be Cal GS. It was made in Fremont, CA as I believe the Cali's were. They didn't have convert frames. The last one was on ebay that I saw.

His VIN has an "L" which I think is an error as I don't see an L plant code.

In 67 Specials and Special Delux models were 3300, 3400, 3500 or 3600 series cars so their VIN s begin 433 or 434 or 435 or 436.

In 67 Gran Sports were 4600 series car so they started 446.

If GS California cars were treated differently than GS cars in general in their VIN sequence I did not realize it.

The VIN cited in the ebay ad above is for a 225 cid 1967 six cylinder special and not a 340 cid car.

You should do a search on the board for this, I know it has been covered before.

The California GS and I think the GS 340 were built on the Special platform. You could also get the "GS" as an ornamentation package on a 6 cylinder Special.

    gscalifornia Small blocks rule!!

Yes, the GS California was built on the Special platform in '67 and the Special Deluxe in '68-'69. Thus they share the VIN with the Special, not with the other GSs. This seems to be the reason many do not consider them to be a "true" GS. Of course I disagree!

The '67 is different in that you could only get them in California, I'm not sure that they were all built in California, but several dealers in California got together and ordered a bunch of Specials, VIN 43307, with the 340 GS drivetrain and added their own custom California emblems. They have the extra GS emblem on the sail panel, vinyl tops, and I believe the only colors were white, silver, or blue. If you ever see a '67 GS California in a junk yard grab the emblems!

The '68-'69 were offered nation-wide by Buick and share the 43327 VIN with the Special Deluxe. All had the GS 350 drivetrain, vinyl top, GS sail panel emblem, etc.

The key to verifying these is matching the engine numbers to the VIN, that's really the only way without original paperwork.

    a couple pics

Here are a couple pics of an original sales brochure for the Cali GS' while many came in the e colors listed above(blue & white probably most popular), I have seen original cars that have been in other standard 67 colors.

I guess since it was a California specific car, it would be unique. I do find it hard to believe that anyone would prefer a 340 over a 400. Don't take it as a personal attack. I had a 71 gs 455, and wished it was a stage 1. It would have been cool to see the Cali gs's rebadged from gs 400's.

    young market

from data I have read on the car it was developed to go after the younger market that couldn't afford a nicely optioned GS 400 - period mag articles noted the car gave you a lot of visual bang (it looked fast so it must be)and even good performance for the buck.

Quick question. Is it possible for a California GS to have been built on the Skylark platform? Reason being is that I bought my 67' Skylark from an original owner from San Bernardino, CA and it has the GS grill(with emblem), GS hood scoops(non functional though), three spoke sport steering wheel, bucket seats with console, and a 340-4 with a ST-300 automatic tranny and rallye wheels. I have no original documentation on it but the V.I.N. is 44417Z104240. Is this possible or is it someone's poor attempt at a clone? Thanks.
