    Well I just picked up my 67 442 4 speed. It seems to be very original including the valve cover decal, air cleaner decal and the decals inside the trunk. Overall I'm very happy with it. My question for our Oldsmobile gurus is about the cowl tag. The trim and paint codes I've decoded, but below that line is:
    W 2LR
    5VY
    I have read that the Y is for seat belts. But what about the W, 2LR and 5V?
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Harvey

    2L 4 speed with console I think. I am not at home so I cannot give you all the codes until tomorrow

    Thanks John
    Since I posted my question, I've read that 2L is a 4 speed. Mine doesn't have a console so I wonder what the "R" is? I look forward to you finding out more. :beer

    (1st group)

    W= tinted windshield only
    E= all tinted glass (one will usually see one or the other at this position)

    2nd Group
    2LR
    L=4spd, R=rear seat speaker

    Z would be Turbo 400
    G would be a console

    no 3rd Group

    no 4th Group

    5th group...
    Y is def deluxe seatbelts

    not sure on V :(

    V at end of 2nd group is reverb.
    Years ago, I parted a '66 2 door LeMans that had AM-FM reverb. The reverb unit was mounted under the passenger side of the rear pkg tray, & a thin ribbon wire ran along the pass side floorpan from the radio to the reverb unit. Due to holes needing to be placed for the reverb box attachment, Fisher Body plant stamped the V at end of 2nd Group of thye cowl tag.

    Some history...
    The cowl tag accessory codes were originally deciphered for '65-67 ChevyII's. Super Chevy had an article on cowl tag decoding around 1988. Shortly after that, several Pontiac researchers got involved, esp after noticing many of the Fisher body cowl tag codes were the same. The Pontiac guys got real serious on figuring out the A-body only cowl tag codes & eventually figured out nearly every letter & position. The info learned worked on Kansas City & Pontiac plant Pontiac A-bodys from '65-67, but not other plants such as Fremont or Baltimore who used a much more limited style of cowl tag. Depending on which plant one's GM A-body (or B-body) was built, one may be able similiarly decode the cowl tag for options. Hope this helps.
