I am going to have to rechrome my '66 sunvisor supports, and wondered if anyone here knows how to take the sunvisor "swingarms" off of the latch. I'm guessing that the chrome button can be pried off, but I don't want to ruin one trying. Thanks, Dan
Dan: Have you figured this one out? You've had almost two years! I need to do my '65's and I'm in the same spot you are(were). I can't find repop's anywhere. Rick
Yes, I figured it out.....There is a shiny round steel "button" pressed loosely over the swivel assembly. Take a precision screwdriver and gently work this out to expose the swivel, which is held by a riveted potmetal shaft. Dremel the rivet and it comes apart. I liken it to the centercaps with the riveted retainer that you can repair by drilling into the post, and screwing back together. Fairly easy deal. Be sure to save the spring and teflon washer for the rebuild. Hope this helps. Dan
I had gotten as far as prying the cap off and decided to try the drill/dremel technique to remove the "knuckle". I was going to try to tap a large head machine screw to reassemble and put the cap back over it. I assume you've had them re-chromed? "I liken it to the centercaps with the riveted retainer that you can repair by drilling into the post" I guess your talking about the wheel centercaps here? I guess you mean to reassemble it with a screw back into the post, correct? Great help! Just wanted to know if I was going in the right direction. Thanks Rick
HI Rick, Yes, like the wheelcaps....I plan to use a flathead screw. They aren't rechromed yet, but anything is better than what I have right now, which is why I went ahead and took the risk. Dan
