I swapped a couple of cars for a rough '66 Riviera(not a GS). Riv hasn't run in 4 years and just got it going. A little water got in the carb but not in the engine. B'laster freed up the primaries but not the secondaries, so I basically have a 2bbl. Got to pull the carb off and redo. 425 sounds/runs good . Kid at work has '88 shortbox S-10 4.3/ 5spd and 3.73posi. Running the mouth about how BAD it is and would have no prob beatin' on the Riv. Whatever.

Kid makes a beer run after work Friday. I pull out in the Riv right behind him. His chance to "show me"! He stops in the middle of the road, line locks it,proceeds to burn his tires . I wait till he starts rolling and nail the nailhead! I am riding his rear while he's bangin' his gears. No cars coming so I hang the left lane and ease on around him and pass him at 90. I turned around and went back to the shop. The look on his face when he came back! Priceless! He didn't even say anything.

They never do remind everyone what they said after they loose. Good kill!!!
I always loved those Rivs they are my favorite by far.

Reminds me of the time back in 1992-3 when I first got the stage 1. The car was a mess and unrestored but ran good. One of the big shots just bought a vette ZR-1 and was mouthing off it was the fastest thing on four wheels. We were leaving work and he ended up behind me waiting at the light and he revved that motor so high I thought it would explode. It went green and I gassed it with him right on my tail. I had a M-21 close ratio in it so I was slow off the line with that tall first gear as I did not want to smoke the tires. Well he comes around me pulling second but only got even when I banged second while he hit third and we went door to door to 85 MPH and I backed out and let him go as we were coming up on traffic, he had much better brakes. He never said a word about how fast his car was in front of me again.

Thats a good one! Reminds me of 1991 , I had a '73 Riv GS Stage 1 at the time . A buddy was riding with me on County Line Rd. in Lakeland. Sitting at the light at US 92 behind a yellow '86/'87 Vette. My friend says the Vette would smoke the Riv. The boattail was no slouch, but figured the Vette would be quicker. Light changes and we go. I start to ease around the Vette ,so the dude really gets on it and jumps ahead a little. I floor the Riv and couldn't believe it but hung on the guy's tail up to a hundred , where I let off. My friend was amazed that a big Buick could hang with a Vette. I love Buicks!

All of these are great kills! It's amazing to me how these Buick powerhouses lug around the heavy body of a Buick and still have enough power to surprise a lot of people w/ hopped-up rides/or sports cars. :bglasses: :TU:

I would give my left nut for Buick to make a supercar or a sportscar or anything 2 door rear wheel drive with a Buick engine in it.
