The one you have is an aftermarket antenna. If I am not mistaken, the antenna mast for either an AM only or AM-FM radio was the same. They were a telescoping mast and FM reception was achieved by telescoping the antenna to a specific length (I don't remember that length, BTW). AM reception was best achieved by extending the antenna to it's full length. This is because AM radio is broadcast at a much lower frequency (around 540-1600 kilohertz or KHz) than FM broadcast (around 88-106 MEGAhertz or MHz).

I'm not too much up on the 66 models, but would it not be like the 67 models with a "teardrop" style base and telescoping mast?

If I recall correctly, the best FM reception was achieved by extending the antenna 15.5 inches, or an exact multiple of that number, ie: 31 inches, 46.5 inches and so on.

    antenna

The FM mast was one piece fixed at 31 inches. Just set the telescoping mast at 31 and you would be good. The original is the tear drop base unit. Good ones go for a few coins ($100+), so if you can live with the one you have it will work fine.

I can't answer that but I do have an original 66 antenna (telescoping) that I can't use on anything here. Let me know if you need it.

Hey Robert - If Shamone doesn't need the antenna, mine is missing and I could use it.

My 67 GS400 with AM/FM radio had the solid mast and I thought the AM had the adjustable one. I bought a NOS 68 that screws in that I can't use that I would sell if sombody needed it. ( I just checked it will work sorry)

The 67 Chassis manual says: Antenna Trimmer Adjustment

This adjustment applies only to AM radios or the AM part of an AM/FM radio. Trimming for the FM reception is accomplished automatically whenever the antenna is raised to 31 inches.

    So...
The end of the story is that AM/FM antennas where onepiece/fixed-
Can anyone prove that with a picture:confused: because some say non-fixed and some say fixed:Do No: :Do No: :Do No: :Do No:

Yup AM/FM cars were fixed(non-telescopic)i can prove it by saying that i have 2 non AM/FM cars and both are telescopic,my `66 GS had AM/FM and had a fixed antenna.:bglasses:

I can prove it as I pulling an AM/FM radio, antenna, buckets, console, door panels, power seat track, hood, disc brake set up, out of a original 67 GS 400. I have the lead up stairs if you need a picture. It may cost you 5 dollars today as its -40 F wind chill temps here.
