You Vette people are a vindictive bunch aren't you?  Like a gang member to get out of the Vette club I think you have to survive a beat down. :spank: :blast:  And you thought my fingers were from a trans accident!
Donny,Its hard not to think these things wont make power!2 holley carbs, nice flowing heads and cast iron (header type)ex manifolds! Brian,I have my doubts about an 11 sec pass, but if you take a full second off your times, that should be close.Only because of the weight difference.
The "Team Stefina" thongs are available, Wayne. I'm sure they'll fit!
Fast Ford, or F.A.S.T. Ford? Which class are you building this for Wayne? Sounds great, this bodystyle is my favorite from Ford, and the 66-67 Comet is a sharp car too :3gears:
Fast Ford Tom, the car will built to run in Pure Stock type events. And a little street cruising.Nice thing, those back seats, whole family can finally come along.
Manifolds.... Brain Do you have any idea which of the two ebay listings are correct for the 67 427-425 Fairlane??? o No:
That seems a little hard to believe......My buddy's '66 Fairlane, with an aluminum headed 351 Windsor weighs 3,300LBS (minus driver), with the hingable hood like what you're wanting to run, so, I'd think an iron headed big block would weigh more than that........ uzzled: Wayne
The scales will tell the real truth. Its gonna be a while till we roll across one of those! If the guy shows up in E-Town in Nov with his(one of 57) 66 427-425 car,I'll see if he will scale it for me.And let me take about 1000 pictures for future reference!!
I'm with Big Squeeze on this 3450lbs I can see but 3300lbs?? Anyway I am with you on the performance potential of these motors. These cars gave the Mopar Hemi's fits on and off the Nascar tracks. They wound up be reclassified in the NHRA and had to use restrictor plates in Nascar (single 4 barrels were used there) Seems they were too fast........But I am sure this is something you are used to dealing with Wayne. :TU: Rob is a real nice guy, and I will get a hold of him, and see if he will bring that car out
NHRA specs show a 67 Fairlane 427 425hp 2 door hard top with 4/speed, lift off hood and battery relocated to the trunk as weighing 3271 pounds. Of course that weight is without radio, heater, undercoating, sound deadener, no driver and with just a splash of gas. That's not how the cars were delivered but if you want to remove all the "little extras" you might be suprised how light you can get a car. Oh yeah, carpet without the padding weighs less than a rubber mat too....... :Brow:
Fairlane Bill Seeing that car in person would be great!I have a ton of things I need to look at.I think his car was in old mag I just found from back in 1992.Great article! It's his car that got me going on these Fairlanes! Thanks Bill!!
Don't know where Gonzo got his info, but I remember the Hemi's having to run one 4-bbl carb, even thou they came with two 4-bbls from the factory, while the Ford 427 got to run with two 4-bbls. Also remember that this (1966 Ford Fairlane ) may be the reason we have such modified cars in NASCAR today. The 66 Fairlane front suspension so bad, NASCAR let Ford teams put "Galaxie frames" under the front of the Fairlane body. Don't know that this has anything to do with building a pure stock drag car for Mich. I too think the 66-67 Fairlane/Comet are two of the better looking Fords ever built.
"I remember the Hemi's having to run one 4-bbl carb, even thou they came with two 4-bbls from the factory, while the Ford 427 got to run with two 4-bbls" OOPS you are correct on that one. Ford did win against Mopar with this set up in 1966 and swept a bunch of early 67' Nascar races as well until Chyrsler complained, at that time the Ford's became handicapped as the sanctioning rules were changed. I should add that aerodynamics were starting to play a part of who won at Nascar almost as much as who had the most power. The 66' Dodge Chargers weren't the most aerodynamic. Chrysler discovered by adding a small lip to the deck lid that this could eliminate rear lift, and in the following years, the "aero" wars really started to play a major part of who was in the victory circle.
i've been reading thru the whole thing.i think we need a skake up at the event.one question ,if you can't have a "dealer preped car "how does a yenko pass?a hurst olds ?,not trying to step on toes but.............. ed
