Hi I have an opportunity to get a '66 posi carrier with a 3.07 gear and I'm wondering if with the proper ring gear spacer I can put this in my '72 Riv rear with a set of 3.42 gears that I also have available to me. I seem to recall that '66 rears had some one year only features, although I can't recall exactly what they are. Can someone in the know comment on whether this would work? Also, If it will what thickness ring gear spacer would I need? I have access to a machine shop, so getting an accurately made spacer is not a problem for me. Thanks!
My understanding is no. The '66 carrier is a one-year-only item...it supposedly has a smaller & shorter carrier bearing than '67-'70. On top of that, '71 - '75 is another carrier design altogether. Details within the first few posts here: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=71740 Devon
