Good morning guys, I wanted to know if any 64' 65' Skylark owners have used Stainless Steel Brake Corps front power disc conversion? The part number is A123-1 and comes with everything for roughly 1100 bucks. I'd like to know if anyone has had any adverse issues with installation or performance. I would like to convert my 65' to power brakes and front disc for safety and drivability. Here is the link the kit I'm looking at is the second kit down

Any input would be great, thanks! Doug

You can do it cheaper if you know someone that can mill down your spindle top bolt boss. They discs would be 11 inch rotors.

I would try to find original spindles as there has been some concern about the taper machined in the ball joint area on spindles from China.

well heres my input as i thought about doing fr. disc on my '65.first of all they weigh A LOT more than drums,so a front spring change should be a consideration.Mine will be street only,no hard braking from excessive speed & the drums stop it just fine now. However i am doing a dual master conversion to address the safety issue.thats a lot of $$$ that i can save & use elsewhere by not going disc, yet still covering safety:laugh:

seriouslly, have you ever picked up a fully loaded rotor/hub/caliper assembely? omg,it's pushing 50+ lbs....one side:error: start looking for aluminum drum assy.racers dont like 'em,but for the street theyre fine.i had a link.ill find it 4 'ya:TU:

Don't worry about the added weight of a disc setup from a spring/suspension standpoint. The front tires bear all the weight (unsprung weight), not the chassis...so there's no impact on springs or ride height.

That makes sense Devon, if I had planned on going above 16 inch rims then I could see the unsprung weight being an issue I guess. Thanks, Doug

    Doug,
Check with TA Preformance, I believe they are doing the changes to your spindle to do disc.

I used right stuff detailings front disk kit and had alot of problems, wrong parts, bad vac booster, wrong coupling -line etc....3 additional shipments over 2 weeks to get it all correct in the end...... and they werent overly concerned that I was inconvenienced AT ALL .....others had good luck with them but not me for sure....J .

John, I read your thread and followed it pretty closely I think you got a raw deal from those guys and the sad part you stated ..... and they werent overly concerned that I was inconvenienced AT ALL ..... they have no idea how that one thing will impact their business, they should hell they have to have sales people that know the stats! Thanks for the info I'm grateful, Doug
