Anyone ever run a P215/70R15 on a WP Code Buick Rally Wheel without issues on the front of a 1965 Skylark? I ran across a set and was wondering if anyone had any input or experience doing this.

    Thanks,

    Doug

Should be absolutely NO ISSUES with that tire size.

    Larry,

Thanks for the heads up, thought I'd be OK, but I just wanted some validation and verification!

    Thanks,

It's not a big tire. It's about 26.8" tall, but only 215mm from side wall to side wall, that's about 8.5". It's the metric equivalent of an FR70-15. Should easily fit with no problems.

I hear you it's not that big a tire, but I've been living with the old 14 inchers for ten years!

    Thanks again!

I'm considering the same wheels for my 65, possibly with 75 series tires for more height.

While I don't know the measurements of a WP rally wheel, I am running a 215/70-15 on the front of my `65 on 6" wheel with a 3.5" backspace and all I have is the occasional rub on the front fender if I am at a bad angle going in or out of a driveway with the wheels turned sharply, which I am aware of so I try to avoid it.

    The WP's are 7" with 4-3/8" backspace.

John that should look good on your Riv, it should fill out your wheel wells nicely and also give you a good comfortable ride as well.

    Regards,

    Doug

    Bill,

I can't help but love your Skylark, I've said it before, and I'll say it again, your stance is perfect. If you have ever thought about adoption I'm your new favorite adult child!!
Thanks for the info, I am grateful!

    Regards,

    Doug

I should have been clearer---I recently acquired a 65 Skylark Gran Sport. It came to me with American Racing 15's, 215/70's on the front and 255/60's on the rear. I'm getting some rubbing on hard turns, and there are air shocks on the rear that may or may not be necessary for clearance. I like the look, and can avoid the rubbing if I pay attention, but want to be able to switch back and forth to stock appearance.

It also came with a set of 14" steelies with 205/75's all around that are about worn out. There's not much choice of 14" tires, so am considering the WP 15's.

As for the Riviera, it came with 15's from the factory with 5" bolt circle vs. 4-3/4" for the Skylark.

You'll be fine with the WPs, although I think a 215/70 is a little too small for a 7" wheel. I tried on a pair of Chevy rally wheels awhile back that were the same size and had 235/60s on them and they fit just fine. It was just more than I was used to looking at on my car.

Thanks again for the compliments on the car, Doug. But as for the adoption, when our last kid left home (he's 26 now), everyone told us we'd have empty nest syndrome. Nope, we were actually looking forward to it and intend to keep it that way. Once our daughter mentioned wanting to move back home. I told her if she had any idea of the horror we felt on the mere mention of such an occurrence, well....... But I might make an exception if you were to win, say, $200 million in the lottery

Here they are on the car, so far no issues, just like everyone said. I like the way they fill out the wheel well, better looking than the 14s in my opinion!
